thick curly hair question...may be dumb but i'm not sure!?

My hair is super thick and curly, so if I don't put product in it then it turns to a frizzball. I haven't gotten a nice updo at the salon since the prom so I don't remember how your hair should be when you arrive? No product in it? Do they wash and blowdry it first? I'm also wondering cuz this may determine if I book someone to come on site or if I might be better off at a salon. Help!

Re: thick curly hair question...may be dumb but i'm not sure!?

  • I have thick curly/wavy hair too, and I was always told to arrive with it "clean and dry from the night before" I was also told NOT to straighten it, because the hair wouldn't hold pins or product as well.

What they DONT understand is that if i wash and let my hair air dry (or attempt a blowout), i end up with an incredibly fro-tastic frizzy 80's hairstyle.  SO, what i've done is wash my hair sometime mid-day, part it and pull it down and back into a relatively tight low bun, and sleep that way.  When I take everything down in the morning, the top 3/4 of my hair is mostly straight with a little wave to it, and the bottom part that was in the bun has a wavy look.  But ultimately it's frizz-free and fairly easy to work with and achieve a 'smooth' updo look.
  • I have similar hair, how are you wearing yours?
