Wedding Invitations & Paper

How soon to start planning invitations?

When should I choose my invitations?? Thanks!

Re: How soon to start planning invitations?

  • I would start looking sooner rather than later- it doesn't mean you have to commit to anything.I thought it would be one of the less stressful things and it turned out to be much more difficult than I thought. It took me a good 3 months to find our final invitations, between ordering samples from online vendors and making appointments at stationary shops in town. Its always a good idea to start looking, just to get a feel for what you like!
  • Start deciding on designs as soon as you'd like. I looked online and printed out styles I liked. I showed them to DH who narrowed down the choices further. We then ordered samples.

Also, remember that certain styles cost more postage (due to weight, square shape, etc) so you'll have to decide if paying more than the cost of one stamp to send each envelope is an option for you.
  • I freakin' love stationary so as soon as I had the date, time, and venue finalized, I began ordering a bunch of samples. We made our choice a few weeks after receiving the samples, and ordered our invitations eight months before the wedding. The advantage of ordering them early is that if you're hand-addressing them yourself, you can start working on them right away. We had ours ready to mail almost three months before the wedding, so at the seven week mark, all we had to do was stamp 'em and drop 'em in the mail.
