Want the Plus Sized Bridesmaids to Feel Comfortable-- What Should They Wear???

I'm having only three bridesmaids-- and they are "plus sized".  My biggest concern is that they will end up in dresses that don't flatter their bodies and that they aren't comfortable in.  Can anyone recommend a really good bridesmaid dress for these girls??  Thanks!

  • Honestly, it depends on what they like and what flatters their body types. There isn't one particular style that's universally flattering on a plus size woman. Like for me (I'm a size 18), I have no qualms about wearing a strapless dress or anything that shows off my arms, but a lot of plus size women don't want to show their arms. It would be a good idea to take them with you when you shop for BM dresses.

Both David's Bridal & Alfred Angelo have dresses that come up to a size 28, and smaller bridal shops are notorious for not having plus size samples to try on.

  • I am in the same boat.  I have one BM size 16 and 2 BM that are size 26/28 and I am only having three.  I think I am going to pick the color and fabric but let them choose the style (as long as its floor length), that way they will be more than likely to feel comfortable and look comfortable.  I am a big believer in when you FEEL like you look good it shows!

  • My girls got a Mori Lee, style 262, and they range from size 2 to size 28. It looks amazing on all of them. It's strapless, but comes with optional straps and a shawl if they want to cover up their arms. They all love it, and tell me all the time that it was a great style choice.

  • I have one plus sized bridesmaid and then my pretty darn skinny sister is my MOH. I'm glad we can touch on this subject here because I don't know where else to discuss it. My mom's first time meeting my bridesmaid was last weekend when we went dress shopping, where she pulled me aside and asked what my friend was "going to do".. I asked what she meant. And she said "Well.. I mean, is she going to lose weight before the wedding??" I just replied that I didn't know, but now I am just irritated. I don't know if she will lose weight, and frankly, I don't give a damn either way. She is my best friend and I love her the way she is. ARGH. Just had to vent. But... I think in my situation, I will let them choose what style they want, as long as the length and color are the same. My sister picked out one that I know wouldn't be flattering on me (size 10), so I can't expect my bridesmaid to want to wear it. I love them both but they are two completely different people with different shapes so I'm allowing them to do their own thing.
