Old, New, Blah Blah Blah!

Are you doing an old, new, borrowed and blue? I'm trying to decide whether I want to do this. It's not really important, but just seems like something fun if I could figure it out!

I have a million new things, but don't know about anything else. I could throw on some blue underwear I guess?

Sorry if there's already been a million of these posts...

  • I am doing it because I think it is a fun tradition. My something old is a handkerchief of my grandma's that I will wrap around my bouquet. New is my dress and veil. Borrowed is my aunt's necklace, bracelet, and head piece. Blue is my garter.

  • I'm doing it because I know i'll regret not!  It can be easy stuff, like your something blue could be your toe nail polish.  Mine are my dress, blue stickers that say I do on the bottom of my shoe, his parents cake topper and my mom is still choosing her borrowed item.

  • I too think its fun. New my dress, old my moms ring that belonged to her mother. This may also be my borrowed. Blue my shoes.

  • I think it's fun, and I've seen some creative ideas on here that I'm adopting. For example, part of my something new is going to be a new perfume, so I'll always have that scent memory associated with my wedding day! I picked out a nice one, wasn't terribly expensive, and it should be fun.

My something old is my grandmother's handkerchief, borrowed is my mother's necklace, and blue is going to be my garter or maybe toenail polish.
  • I really like this tradition because it's so easy! Blue: my shoes, Borrowed: my earrings, New: my dress and a bracelet, Old: I haven't decided yet but I have an old little mermaid bracelet that I might put around the base of my bouquet, or I might where an old perfume that I've had that my FI loves!
  • I was just talking to FI about this.  I have my New: my dress, Blue: custom made garters that my MOH got me at my shower, Old: a diamond bracelet that FI bought me as an gift about a year ago, and the something borrowed. IDK yet.  I have to find something and soon.

I think about it from time to time. Obviously I have a fair amount of new, I don't have blue as a wedding color but am putting blue thisle in my bouquet because I think they are so cool, my earrings are made from repourposed old vintage gems... but I'm not sure about my something borrowed.

Maybe I can get a ring to wear from my mom, he hands are a little bigger than mine so it'll go on a non-ring finger!

Or since we decided to use a lot of traditional wording from many different faiths in our wedding, those words can be our something borrowed!

  • I'm not doing this.  Although, I'm sure if someone wanted to point out the 4 things on me, I'm sure I'll actually be wearing something old, new, borrowed, blue... but that's one thing I wasn't interested in trying to plan. Undecided

  • I think it's something fun for photos and just to do somethings that are tradition (I'm having a very non-traditional wedding).

    Mine will be:
NEW: - I have a ton but mainly my dress
OLD - My grandmother's wedding set , we got it redesigned and melted down and made into a pendent for me to wear, All her diamonds are reset in it.
Borrowed: I am carrying old family heirloom jewerly in my bouquet
Blue - One of my wedding colors is navy so there is a blue ribbon on my garter and my shoes are navy blue.

I've seen a lot of girls have blue toe-nail polish if it wasn't one of their wedding colors.
    Good luck!

  • Here's what I'm thinking for mine:

Old: When I was newborn, one of my great great aunts gave me/my parents a bonnet that could become a handkerchief - which was actually intended for me to use on my wedding day! I'll have that in my borrowed item...

Borrowed: A beaded evening clutch I'm borrowing from my grandma. I'll have the handkerchief  inside as well.

New: Almost everything, but mostly my dress and fascinator

Blue: I dip-dyed the edge of my crinoline blue. My wedding colors are green with orange and yellow, but I thought this little hint of blue was fun.

  • I'm not sure if I will do it yet but here are my ideas: Old is a brooch my mother bought when she was young and gifted to me on my 16th birthday. I will attach this to my bouquet. New could probably be anything I'm going to wear. Borrowed I have no idea. Blue would likely be painting my toe nails or something.
  • Im doing this just because it seems fun. I am following the proper tradition though because its more of a challenge and therefore more fun to try to get completed.

Somthing old (to represent the continuity of the brides family/past): I keep bugging my mom about this as, but she says she doesnt have anything old (I joke and tell her that anything she owns is old and will do). So I dont have my something old yet because she hasnt found anything.

Something new (to represent the future and brides new life): FI says he has something he is going to give to me the morning of for my something new but wont tell me what it is.

Something borrowed (from a someone who has been married a long time to pass on the luck of a long happy marriage): I asked my Aunt who has been married to my uncle for almost 30 years I believe to be my something borrowed. I have to ask her again soon and see what she will lend me for the day

Something blue (to represent love, fedelity): I am going to ask my seamstess to sew our wedding date on the inside of my wedding dress in blue thread. If she doesnt do it then I will do it my self.

  • My dress is my something old (I bought it several years ago in a different engagement).  I'm borrowing my mom's pearls and maybe a bracelet.  I haven't decided about blue or new yet. :/
  • My engagement ring is old (his grandmother's ring.)
My dress and veil are new.
My borrowed and blue is my grandmother's (and now my mom's since she passed away) blue teardrop necklace on a silver chain.
