Fresh mixed with silk

Is it ok to mix fresh garden (peoney) roses with silk hydrangeas in my bouquets? I'm extremely picky with my flowers and I realy want all fresh but my budget won't let me. I am DIY'ing almost everything and I have cut my flowers down to only the bridesmaids and myself. Mainly to save my sanity but also to save some money. Will it look tacky to have them mixed or should I stick with one or the other?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

In my experience the real flowers will make the fake ones look...well...fake; guests can always tell too. Also, a good silk flower usually costs as much per stem, if not more, than real flowers.

Keep in mind that hydrangeas have big blooms. This means you will not have to purchase as many stems to make your bouquet. I can't tell when your date is but peonies may be your problem. They tend to be more expensive esp. if they are out of season. You can do smaller bouquets for your BMs. You can do just hydrangeas for your BMs and mix peonies in with just your bouquet to save money. You can purchase the flowers wholesale and do them yourself to save money. There are tons of options without having to mix real and fake flowers.

fresh hydrangeas should only cost you about $5 a stem... so where is the savings ?  That is unless you want the dark blue and the silks of those will look pretty artificial next to the fresh roses.
I would encourage you to go fresh... Flowers capture a moment in time and in the case of weddings that is the moment....
I think the temptation to buy the silks early and "knock that off the to do list" kicks in and makes the silks look better... but i bet you are happier with the real thing if you hang in there....

    Hello
I think if your budget doesn't allow for it... then use the silk.  Be picky in what you choose.  Michaels have beautiful hydrangelias that could mix in with other fresh flowers.  I am and would mix the silk in the reception decor (lights are low) and use fresh in the attendants bouquets if you can.  If not just mix 1 or two silk flowers in with the fresh.  If the majority of your main flowers are fresh...most people will not notice.    I am mixing fresh and silk for my son's wedding flowers.  I think it can look very nice.   Good Luck.

i think mixing them together will make the fake ones look very fake. i would go all one way or the other, not mix. just my opinion.

Thanks ladies! Ya'll have a lot of great ideas! I'm not using peonies because they are WAY too expensive but a rose that looks like one. I found them at www.fiftyflowers.com for what seems to be a good price and I think I am just going to stick with only them.

I was in a wedding where the bride had real flowers and the bridesmaids (14 of us NOT counting the Jr. bridesmaids) all had fake flowers that was a smaller bouquet than the brides.  Very economical (especially since we were in the Virgin Islands and roses are costly).  You couldn't tell the difference in the pictures plus it was a great keepsake from the wedding that lasted for years! (actually, longer than the marriage..haha)

on our centerpeices I am adding fake daisies only to "plump" them up a bit...we experimented and took pics and can't tell the difference.  Plus that way we will put all the fake flowers into 2 centerpieces for his mom and mine to keepsake
