July 2012 Weddings

Uh oh...

So I already bought a dress for my shower, but last night I was on the phone with my mom trying to get some more details about the shower (all I know is the date and the guest list) and I asked her if there is a dress code. She said to me "Hey, you're asking too many questions. I can't tell you that right now!" I was like... "What does that mean? I need to know at some point if there is a certain dress code..."

My shower is only 3 weeks away and it is out of town and I need to pack for it by the first week of April when I leave for the U.S. for the shower and other wedding planning stuff. So then she said, "Okay, I'll make sure your bridesmaids convey to you the dress requirements in the next few days."

Now I'm worried I can't use the dress I already bought. I'm wondering what kind of "requirements" they might have. Maybe that everyone has to wear a specific color? I am really curious now,  but my mom won't tell me anything else. Any other ideas why there might be dress requirements...??

Re: Uh oh...

  • Does your mom know you already bought a dress?  If not maybe she is just saying you will need to be dressy.  I think any dress code is silly for the bride to be- You should wear what you want!
  • Hmm. Weird!

Why don't you send your mom a picture of the dress you bought and say "Does this work?" And if she won't answer, ask your BMs? I'd be curious too!

  • My first question is why are you assuming that there is any requirement at all? From what you posted, I wouldn't assume that because she didn't say anything about a dress code, you brought that up. Maybe when she said she'd have the BM's tell you the "requirements," she just meant like how fancy the dress should be? I've never heard of people coordinating colors or anything for a shower. Can you post a picture of your shower dress again? I can't remember what it looks like, but I thought it was a pretty fancy dress. I'm sure you'll be fine to wear it.

This sounds really strange to me! I have been to bachelorette parties with dress codes, themes, color codes, etc., but never a shower. Usually just sundress or cute cocktail dresses is fine regardless of the "theme" of the shower itself! !

If I were you, I would call one of my bridesmaids and get the scoop immediately. Otherwise you are going to freak  yourself out and be worrying about what you should be wearing.

That's what I thought too! I went to one shower that was "Afternoon Tea" themed, so everyone was asked to wear a hat to look kind of British or whatever, but they didn't make the bride wear her own... they just got a hat for her.

I just asked her that question about dress code b/c she hadn't given me any details on the location or anything, so I was just asking whatever I could to get hints (basically just being nosy). So then I was weirded out by her response. She said "I can just tell you that your BMs have all been working really hard on planning this and making it really unique and getting a fun location for it and I think you are really going to like it".

  • Here is the dress I bought. I was planning to wear it with pink pumps and a pink purse.

  • Honestly I wouldnt even really worry about it.  I am sure whatever your dress is will be just fine.  Like someone said maybe send a pic of it to your mom or one of your BM and just say is this ok for the shower if you really want to know.
  • Your dress is GORGEOUS and absolutely perfect for a shower. I can't imagine any theme where that dress WOULDN'T be perfect.......unless you guys are like going ziplining or bowling or something as part of your shower theme, haha.

Thanks!! I'm really excited to wear it, so hopefully I can! If not, I guess it could be my day-after brunch dress, but then I'd have to wait 3 more months to wear it haha.
