Is there anything you wish you knew before registering at BBB?

I'm strongly considering registering at BBB.  I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with their completion programs, or returns etc. that they wish they had known about before they decided to register at BBB?

I would also be interested to know if you were surprised by good things about BBB.

Thanks

Re: Is there anything you wish you knew before registering at BBB?

  • Well, I've only gotten 3-5 things off my BBB registry so far and I haven't had any returns, but I can share what I've know so far.

    1.  I like BBB because of their 20% off coupons.  Saves your gift giving guests money.
    2.  In general, if you have a problem with a product, even if you've used it, they will take it back for store credit, especially if you write a negative review on their website.
    3.  They are everywhere.
    4.  I believe they give you a 10% completion discount, but they also have Completion Parties, where you can get 20% off your entire purchase if you go to them.  They generally host them once a quarter at BBBs that specialize in bridal registries.

  • I had no problems with BBB.  They were kind and friendly.

The completion discount applied to everything, including random things we wanted that day, and we got free shipping for items not in the store we went to.
  • How does it make sense that they send out endless 20% off coupons, but their completion program is only 10%? I know the 20 only applies to one product at a time, but I would just do that after the wedding instead of using the completion program...

    This is what we did.

  • We're using the 10% off for things that the 20% off coupons don't apply to (although they did let us use one for an All-Clad pot, and that brand is listed as not applying, so you may get lucky).

  • We had no problems with BBB. They were great with returns. And I think the website is really easy to use to update/change the registry.

Instead of using the 10% completion discount, we waited until they had one of the registry completion parties. There we got 20% off our whole purchase. We also  saved and used all our giftcards then. Because we were buying everything all at once we spent enough on Calphalon products to also get a $50 BBB gift card, a Calphalon cheese set and a Calphalon dutch oven (which we use ALL the time). Plus we got food and drinks while shopping. And our store was doing a raffle for all the couples involved. We ended up winning the grand prize, a really nice very large piece of Samsonite luggage.

The only "issue" I have had so far is that when we went to the store to set up our registry, the salesman helped us pick out our casual plates.  He thought it came in sets of 4 place settings each, so only marked us down for quanitty of "3" (we wanted 12 place settings).  Problem is it comes in SINGLE place settings (4 pieces per place setting), so we really needed to register for a quanity of "12."   Easy to fix, but I'm glad we noticed this and were able to fix it online.

  • Avion, that's a little strange. Probably why I didn't have a salesperson help us. I didn't want anyone in my business! haha
I only scanned one of each item and when I got home I fixed the quantities online.

I'm really happy with the selection of BBB right now. Just wish they had more 'random' things, like things I can find at Target. But I didn't want to register at Target so I have to be happy with what I can get. I just can't wait to get my Keurig and Soda Stream! Those are my 2 favorite registry items!

  • My only issues with BB&B are really small:

    1)  I had to return a registry item this weekend.  I had registered for a knife set, which FMIL purchased for Christmas.  FI noticed it didn't come with steak knives.  So, I went online, and saw I could get a larger set of the same knives (Henckels Classic) for the same price by using a coupon.  I went to the store to return them, but got a store credit instead of a gift card.  I then had to go to another store to get the knives, 1st store was out of them (no big deal), but on multiple returns, I would prefer plastic over paper.

    2)  If you receive something from the registry, but it wasn't scanned off, you have to actually remove the item from the registry - there is no way to fix the qty purchased.

Otherwise, I love them, and am really happy to hear about the 20% party - that was never mentioned to me, but I'll ask next time I'm in the store!
