PH Apex Reception Questions...Caterer? Room Block?

I've gone back and forth from resturant to in-suite reception many times now, but I've decided on in-suite for good.  I like the Vista (price particularly!) but I love the Apex Suite at Planet Hollywood.  Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that many brides/grooms have used Apex, but if you know of any in particular, please point me in that direction.  I found a fairly recent thread by someone who booked Apex for their reception, but I never saw any reviews.  My main concern is what will happen to our Apex reservation if we don't meet the 5 room block "requirement."  I use quotes because they don't actually say in the email that it's required, but don't say that it's not.

Total Experiences has provided me a rate which will require me to make some budget trade-offs.  I planned to use MC, but I don't think that will be an option any longer.  I've seen many references to Jason's Deli as well, but I don't care much for them.  Is there anyone else to reccommend for catering?  Will I not find anything cheaper than MC?  I've considered contacting Yolos or PF Changs in PH to see if they cater, or taking everyone to Spice Market Buffet before we go to the suite. Spice Market lacks a certain appeal I desire, but what else is to be expected?  Does anyone else have another suggestion?

Although I haven't made a big check thread, I have at least booked our chapel (Silver Sky @ IP) and Tyler Freear for photography.  Thanks for at least taking the time to read...I know this was a long one :S

How many people are you having? We didn't meet the minimum for MC and not everyone in our party is an Italan lover (cross out Maggianos) so we're doing either Cheesecake Factory or Chili's. We're only having a few people so having a laid back reception makes sense.

Thank you, jccswl.  I enjoyed reading her reviews.

PB - We have invited 40.  It's too soon to send invitations, but based on STD conversations, we're expecting almost everyone to attend.  Are you planning on going to dinner or having those restaurants cater something?

Vireyda - I looked at Firefly when we were considering eating at a restaurant, but I don't particularly care for their menu.  Thank you for the suggestion, though!

Since I posted this, the Total Experiences manager called to discuss the room block.  We will discuss further next week, but I got the impression the rooms they block do not have to be reserved in order to keep the Apex reservation.  VERY good news since I believe the majority of my guests will stay downtown.

Just bumping this to see if anyone has a concrete answer regarding the room block. We have made our room block through Total Experiences at PH for 5 rooms and also booked the Apex Suite (deposit paid and confirmation received).

Deals can be found for much cheaper online than our room block rate so we will likely not be getting the 5 rooms minimum booked through Total Experiences. Is this going to affect our Apex Suite booking? Anyone with experience or has spoken to Total Experiences about this?

    Thanks!

The apex suite booking is independent to the 5 room minimum. Germanlinda had her reception there and didnt meet the 5 room minimum.

I didn't have anyone use the room block at all, and we had no issues renting the suite.

You'll have to dig a bit, but I think the Apex photos start about page 10 here.
