Looking for a CHEAP reception venue!! Any ideas?

Hello!  I'm trying to find a super-cheap reception venue, preferrably something with an indoor/outdoor option and off-site catering allowed.  My ideal reception: small and casual(around 30 to 40 people), cheap food(leaning towards pizza and some cheap sides to go with it), dancing and drinking and no-frills.  My parents are giving us $1400 so we need to come up with the rest and we're definitely not rich!  The most important thing to us is just having fun and celebrating with people we love.  Oh, and we're hoping to have it in fall.  Thanks for help in advance!

Sounds like you are maybe looking for a firehall or something like that? Maybe someone's backyard? What area are you looking specifically?

Mooreheads in Collegeville is a catering hall - no frills at all - but they have really good food. It's kind of like home cooking.    I've been to beef and beer fundraisers there and the sandwiches are always excellent.  I've been to a few other parties and funeral luncheons there and I can't say I've ever been disappointed in the food.  Another option in the area would be several of the firehalls. And there is a farm that has built a party room and will allow outside caterers there.  northernstarfarm.net  There is a really good BBQ place in the area that you could use too if pizza didn't work out.  I'm not sure of the fee but it's certainly fun and different!

I'm not sure if you're open to going to Delaware, but we had our reception at Memorial Hall at Talleyville Fire Co. on 202.  The rental fee was a few hundred dollars and they have their own in house caterer with so many options and price levels to choose from.  It's a really nice hall and most people commented that they couldn't even tell it was a fire hall.  Here's the website if you want to request more information  http://talleyvillefireco.org/hallrental.cfm

I'm sure there are other options like this available in the Philadelphia area as well though.

jelybeancg - yeah.. more up the firehall alley, but something a little nicer.  i mean, i'd go with a firehall as a last resort, but i wanna find out all my options first.  i'm looking in bucks county/montgomery county mostly.

and as for the backyard thing.. we know someone who has an acre of beautiful land with all these trees and it would be ideal except for the fact that this person would be my mother-in-law, lol.  she's just very traditional and the kind of person that's hard to say no to.  also, parking is a little bit of an issue with her place, even though i'm only having a small party.

bethtowed - wow, thank you for those suggestions!  i'll have to check out mooreheads and that farm.  they sound right up my alley.

dibsontop - i would like to stay closer to the area, but if i really have no other option, i'll definitely keep it in mind.  the whole reason i didn't want to go with a firehall is because i thought it would be so cold looking and feeling.  thank you for that info, i'll check out the website.

You'd definitely have to check out each firehall on it's own, but I'm just saying don't rule them out completely.  There are some really nice ones that are still inexpensive.  It's hard to find a good picture, but here is the one we used.  I could be biased, but I don't think it screams firehall.  But obviously each hall will be different and you'll just have to look at specific ones in your area.

Look into The Woman's Club in Bala Cynwyd...their rental fee is reasonable and they will let you bring in your own vendors.
