Need Some Opinions!!

I am currently on the hunt for our DJ.  FI and I do not see eye-to-eye on this matter so I want to get some feedback from you guys!  FI wants to get a DJ that offers karaoke.  I think throwing karaoke in near the end of the night is a bad idea as I think it might bring the party to a screaching hault.  I only see about 10 people wanting to do it, and who wants to listen to drunk people screach out lyrics to 80's Bon Jovi at a wedding!  What do you guys think?  We have a photobooth scheduled and we are planning a late night buffet - I just don't want people to think that once the karaoke starts it's time to leave and miss out on the other stuff we have going on!

    yeah, I would not do karaoke at a wedding.  Seems like more of an afterparty/ bachelor party/fun night out thing.

    I agree with mdphd 100%. Veto the karaoke! And on another note, good luck this week mdphd and congrats on the successful defense! Six more days - wow!

    My fiance also seems to think karaoke is a good idea, but I have remained skeptical.  I don't see alot of the relatives wanting to do it, and it would just be some of the younger friends doing it.  I am not a big karaoke person anyway, and even though my wedding is very laid back, I still don't really think karaoke would be quite right.

    I agree I don't think a wedding is a appropriate place for late night Karaoke. Maybe at the bar after the wedding, but not at the wedding venue!

    Here are my honest thoughts on peoples reactions:

    !!!  The older folks - Imagine when Granny hears "Like a Virgin" or worse.  How will she react??? 

    1.  If you sound really bad, I laugh at you - even if I know you think you sound good.  After a few drinks I lose the inhibition to control myself and get loud with these opinions which could get someone made.

    2.  If someone is really terrible awful, I am leaving the room where this is happening.  If it is cold outside, I am going home. 

    3.  If I know you two well enough that you BOTH love to do this, I would expect the announcement that this would be happening way ahead of time  AND I would expect you would plan it so it would not be tacky.

    I have to agree with the majority on this one. No Karaoke, it will slow down the night....maybe you could do this during the rehearsal dinner (depending on the crowd and the setting). Or an afterparty...after the wedding.

    This is almost as bad as my FI's idea to have dueling pianos (like at Sing Sing).  Veto the karaoke, but I like JoyjoshM's suggestion to try and do it at the afterparty or some party beforehand to respect his opinion.
