Sandals Negril or Sandals Whitehouse?

Been MIA since May for a short time there...summer just gets crazy! Still 21 months out from our wedding, but I'm trying to narrow down my "choices" to have the FI look over and pick from...I'm REALLY torn though between these 2...has any body been to both these locations to give me an unbiased opinion on? I've done some footwork and basically what it sounds like it comes down to is Negril has a great nightlife/cultural experience and Whitehouse has a better beach, quieter setting...any thoughts?
Basically I REALLY like the idea of the whole cultural experience Negril will give...but I'm also intrigued with the beautiful beaches and luxury offered by whitehouse...is Negril pretty luxrious? Or is whitehouse way more beautiful?

Re: Sandals Negril or Sandals Whitehouse?

  • Hi there, I just happened to pop over here. We got married at Sandals Negril so I'm probably a little more biased Wink I would say you need to look at what you'd like more for a location. Negril there is always something to do whether it's hanging out, partying, exploring, etc. I've heard some people get bored at Whitehouse. I know some things have changed since then but I've got a planning and married bio in my siggy with lots of info and pics. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions. LSteller@fuse.net Happy planning

  • Another Sandals Negril bride here.  We loved Sandals Negril...and just Negril!  There were many things that we didn't get to do that wanted in the area.  But some of the "attractions" were in between Negril & Whitehouse too.  I have a bunch of Negril & area attractions info in my bios (our Sandals Negril photos are in my planning bio & a bunch of attractions in the area - even near Whitehouse - are on my wedding website.  Links for both below).

Whitehouse is in a quieter area and the grounds are bigger than Negril.  It's a longer commute to Whitehouse from the airport (it takes about an hour to get to Negril...unless you fly TimAir, then it's about 15 minutes).  In Negril you walk the beach and chat with vendors and can also stroll down to the Beaches resorts and take advantage of the "stay at 1, play at all"...we liked that, but you may not.  I've heard that at Whitehouse you can stroll the beach and not run into locals or anything...because I don't think that there's really anything around.

There is a Whitehouse Knottie that just recently got back.  She had rave reviews too.  I just can't remember who it was...maybe the DWbridesbio.com website will lead you to her.

GL & whichever one you decide on will be *awesome*!
  • i am the whitehouse bride! I absolutely loved it there...we were debating between negril and whitehouse and i am so happy with our choice! We did get to visit negril for the day for an excursion so we got to see both resorts. Both are really nice, but i just LOVE the pool at whitehouse. It is very large compared to negril's. Also as a PP said, there are no vendors on the whitehouse beach but they have a day where locals come and set up stations that you can buy from them which is kinda neat.

The nightlife at whitehouse was a lot of fun...There are activities planned every night by sandals (im sure negrils has planned stuff too) and they also have a piano/martini bar, a night club (which is kinda weird at a couples resort, but it was a ton of fun for us and our guests) bars that are open till 3am and a late night food place that is open till 530am! I have a ton of pictures on my facebook...if you want to see them, let me know how i can find you on there and you can take a look!

also my email is mandy.soske @ yahoo if you have any questions!

  • Aww thanks ladies! You've all been great with information and I'll do some bio stalking!! :) I'm hoping we can do a Negril trip this May...so I can get that cultural experience in because I REALLY want to do a lot of fun things...and then that way we can save Whitehouse for our Wedding lol...best of both worlds ;) Its just SUCH a toss up because it sounds like they off very different experiences! Hopefully I'll be roaming the boards more consistantly too from now till then! ....being engaged for over a YEAR already makes it hard to sometimes watch the boards b/c mine feels so far away...but now that its 21 months away I feel ok starting my projects ect. hehe.
  • I was actually a Negril bride who honeymooned at Whitehouse. Is this an option for you?

The Negril wedding department is simply wonderful! Everything was so smooth and better than I could have imagined. I would suggest getting married early, as it rains most afternoons. Negril was a great choice for our group; it was a bit more lively.

Whitehouse, on the otherhand, is gorgeous! The entire property is stunning. Although it is much quiter than Negril, it serves as a wonderful choice for a honeymoon... or a quiter wedding. There are some fun events at night and the piano/martini bar is a blast; however, we hung out with a group of other couples that really made the events more enjoyable. The resort seemed to be a majority of "older" couples... so it was nice to have some others.

Some of our guests in Negril did complain about their rooms. It seemed to be a lot of money to spend for the "lower" level rooms. Although I didn't see any of them, their complaints seemed valid. Other than that, Negril was a blast and more "authentic" than Whitehouse. You can't go wrong with either.
  • Yeah...I heard the rooms over all are nicer at the Whitehouse...and that was one of my concerns...I just wasn't sure HOW much nice, ya know? lol they seem to be a draw...maybe the FI will be the push that makes me know which is best for us :P

KTLYNN: Random question (fi and I LOVE snorkeling) Was one beach better than the other for that, if you happen to know?
  • Rooms in Negril:  If you've bio-stalked me, you've probably already seen this info...but I would suggest if you do choose Negril that you book a room with an oceanview.  My MOH was in a Grand Luxe Beachfront room and it was awesome!  It's not an overly done room but it was very nice..flat screen tv, fridge, etc...but that view!!!  WOW!  We spent a lot of time on their balcony.  We totally kicked ourselves for not booking a room with a view!  We went with the theory of "we won't spend much time in our room anyways" ...phooey on that!  We would've loved to have been able to sip our morning coffee or end our nights on a balcony with that awesome view!!!

As a note...we did get upgraded the day before our wedding.  But we had hoped that we would be upgraded upon arrival.  But, much to our surprise, the resort was fully booked.  Our first room was a Negril Premium room and we were in the Paradise building.  We had no balcony and overlooked "the gardens"...it was a nice room, but we had no view.

Just thought that I'd throw that in there...
