Help us with a great outdoor venue for our reception

My fiance, Paul & I, were engaged on November 23, 2012.  We have decided on a May 2014 wedding, & are typing in circles trying to find our "perfect" ceremony & reception location.  Recently engaged &/or married couples in the Baltimore MD area, please send us your recommendations re outdoor wedding venues.  We need to find a location where we can provide our own caterers,  there is lodging on site or within a 5-10 min drive, and the ceremony & reception can be held outdoors.  All of your suggestions will be researched & greatly appreciated.

  • Not sure about caterers but have you looked into local vineyards?

We thought about it, but bugs may be a problem & not too many lodging options around vineyards for our out of town guests.  Love the idea tho, cuz we love wine festivals & frequent them in summer & fall.  Thanks for ur suggestion Maggie.
  • I think swan harbor lets you have outside catering, and have de grace might have lodging

  • We're getting married at Shade Trees and Evergreens, in Frederick, about an hour outside of Baltimore.  It's pretty much all outside, you have to bring your own caterer because they don't have one.  The hotel situation may be an issue, closest one is about 8 miles away, the one I'm using is 13 miles away.

  • Have you thought about renting a summer camp? They come with accomodations, usually let you bring in your own food, and are very outdoors-oriented. Camp Puh'tok, Camp Airey, Camp Louise, Treehouse Camp, etc. are options to explore, if the idea strikes your fancy.

You can also look at Quiet Waters park in Annapolis. It doesn't have accomodations onsite, but all of the Annapolis hotels are close by. The William Paca house right in Annapolis is another option. If you are interested in a splurge, Londontown Gardens has a stunning outdoor setting. Again, Annapolis hotels are reasonably close.

In Howard County you could look at the Patapsco Female Institute. Such a unique place, and the Columbia hotels are quite close.

  • Have you looked at Gramercy Mansion in Baltimore?
  • Have you looked into the Hebron House? The ampitheatre is gorgeous!!!!!
  • Chase Court has a ceremony space outside (a lovely shade garden with a goldfish pond and fountain) and a building with a fireplace, chandeliers, gothic windows, and beautiful hardwood floors.  It's in downtown Baltimore, 5-10 minutes from dozens of hotels.  It's also very close to the highway, MARC, amtrak, BWI, and CCC (free shuttle bus).

We booked on March 29, 2014 for their half-price winter rate.  May would not be half price, but you'd have wonderful weather.  You could do an outdoor cocktail style reception, but because of bugs I'd do the food indoors.

    Good luck!

    Ella
