DRESS MELTDOWN -- NEED HELP

Im having wedding dress meltdown. My dress is beautiful, BUT -- last week I went for my first fitting...

it needs a little work bc im so petite (hemming, taken in at the top, and a double bustle bc its All lace). Ps. Noone showed me what the dress would look like bustled before I bought it.

When the seamstress pulled the back up to bustle it, it LOOKED TERRIBLE.  All I could see were these seams - long straight lines in my dress (my dress is lacy floral - so you see why staight vertical lines wouldnt work??). She basically told me that nothing could be done to hide it. It looks cheaply made. Then I was handed a bill for alterations of $250.00! I told them to hold their work until I talk to a manager. I am going back tonight to discuss my displeasure with the dress.

To make matters worse - as I am walking out of the store I see a BRAND new dress for fall on a manican that is GORGEOUS. I cant get that damn dress out of my head. Someone please ease my mind. Im freaking out.

Don't try it on unless it absolutely won't strain your budget to buy it.  If you end up loving it and can't afford another dress, don't even tempt yourself.

If you are unhappy with the way that this place wants to do your bustle, see what else they can do about it.  If they say there isn't another way, take it elsewhere.  Every seamstress with have slightly different ideas.

First off...if you fall in love with another dress, and you can afford it...go for the one you love.  I did and I am glad...My dress is flipping amazing and I love it a million times more than the 1st one I got!

If you cannot afford another dress...do not look!

As for alterations...please take the dress for a second opinion before you agree to anything that you're not happy with.  Many of us have used Pam Thomas in Maumee.  She is amazing and does customized work.  At least take the dress for a consult with her first...what have you got to lose?

Did you go to David's Bridal for alterations?  I think stores like that tend to want to do the bustle the same way over and over again on their dresses.  I would seriously consider taking it elsewhere to get another idea if you're unhappy.

thanks guys. Yes, its at Davids Bridal -- im going there tonight to discuss my issues with the dress and if it can be fixed (per their opinion) I am taking it elsewhere... The second dress is about 500.00 MORE than my dress. I could only afford it if they gave me store credit for the return of my current dress. -- which i doubt they will do.

First off, your dress is beautiful.   Check out the reviews posted on the website because girls post pictures of their dresses.  The third review down, you can see how one girl bustled it, and it is much different than what you are describing.

And ditto going for a second opinion elswhere.

    Good luck.

Wouldn't it be too late to order a new dress anyway?

If I were you, I would keep the dress you have (it's beautiful!) and I would take it to another alterations place, like Pam Thomas, and see if they can fix it for you and do it right.

Ditto this completely!!  The dress is gorgeous, and I'm sure that Pam (or another seamstress) can come up with a beautiful bustle! :)

I agree with everyone else.  Keep your dress and take it somewhere else to get the bustle. I'm sure it will look beautiful!

Why do you need to bustle it? The cut is beautiful as it is.

Mamboqueen--You bustle the dress for the reception to get the train out of the way.  Otherwise, you'd be tripping over it and people stepping on it while you were walking around, dancing, etc.

    Update!

Went back -- had a nicer seamstress and the manager there. They were very nice and they made me feel alot better about it. They cut some money off for the bustle so im only paying for the alterations. I am re- IN LOVE with my dress! YAY! Thanks to all of you for your kind words and advice!
