Christmas engagements

I wonder how long it will be before the girls engaged on Christmas Eve/Day come and post on this board.

Do any of you know someone who got engaged last week? FI's cousin proposed to his GF on Christmas Eve, and we saw on Facebook on Christmas night that another friend and his GF are getting married.

My MOH was suppose to have gone to CA with her boyfriend to visit his family but last minute her dogs shots were not updated so the dog couldn't get on the plane and the airline messed up her tickets so she decided not to go. She now thinks he was going to propose in front of his family and she ruined it....he's coming back on New Years Eve and she thinks that's when it will happen.  Let's hope.... :) If so I'll tell her to come join us

Two very close friends have proposed in the last two weeks -- one the Friday before Christmas, one on Christmas.

The one from two weeks ago may have already found a hall.  Crazy!

I was hoping to hear of an engagement from either my cousin or my one bridesmaid. My cousin has been with her boyfriend as long as me and FI (7 years) and she's 4 years older than me! At this point, the whole family is wondering what her boyfriend is waiting for. She told me they've been looking at rings so it's definitely gotta be soon. My cousin and bridesmaid will definitely be within the next year, but I guess it didn't happen Christmas because otherwise I would have heard about it already.
Anyways, I definitely expect a whole bunch of new girls that got engaged Christmas/New Years. Maybe it will get the board moving again...

it is a stupid idea to get engaged on any holiday or birthday, then it is a gift not a promise.

Nope... I really thought one of my cousins was going to get engaged during Christmas. One has been with her BF for 7years and the other one for 5 years.  They both claim they are "too young" to get married but I secretly think that they want a ring.

however, if DH had proposed on a holiday or birthday it would have been just as special...but he also agreed that he would never do it on a holiday/bday

I'm guessing you're saying that because of legal considerations if the engagement is broken off, Brad?  I am not cynical enough to think it is stupid because if she breaks it off she might keep the ring.  I do find it cheesy though.

FI's friend proposed on 12.23. I am very excited for them.
My FI proposed on Mother's Day, but it was more for meaning than anything else.

I think Brad is correct - legally.
I also wouldn't want it on my birthday or holiday.

One of the couples I mentioned are both lawyers, so I was surprised to hear that the ring was a Christmas gift. I mean, I don't anticipate a breakup, but you never know.

I know about 3 people that got engaged this past week.   If you ask me...it's cheesy/ typical.   The guy needs to be more original..just my opinion.

eh - i don't really see it as cheesy.  DH proposed on valentines day (which i know is a big no no for alot of other people).  but really it's the day that i WOULDN'T expect him to do it...i was so surprised i think my mom had to pcik my jaw up off the floor.

I dont really think it's cheesy for xms either - everyone has different reasons for doing so..

my FI proposed the day after christmas last year and i dont see it as my christmas gift. i got many other gifts on christmas day and we went away the weekend after christmas which was another gift - he proposed when we were away. i would have killed him if he did it in front of my family on christmas.

ithe newbies will be coming out soon - i remember it taking a few days from the time i registered to when i could actually post.

My best friend got engaged the day before Christmas Eve.
I got engaged on Christmas Eve, but it didn't take away from the holiday at all. And the ring wasn't a 'christmas present'. I got a ton of other stuff from MH. He just knows that I love that time of year and all our family/friends would be around.

Hey I'm new. We didn't get engaged on Christmas, a few days before, I don't have much to post yet but I hope I'll be more active as the wedding gets closer.

I got married on Valentine's Day, and I usually a major hater on everything and am the Queen-Anti-Cheese, but really, you do what suites you! I think a Christmas engagement can be very nice if done correctly.

Also, who cares about getting other gifts? My e-ring was the most expensive gift I have ever received (even more expensive than my first car which was a gift) and it REALLY would not matter to me if he bought me other gifts that were officially designated as Christmas gifts.

With that said, we got engaged on my brother's birthday, LOL! I don't think DH even realized it.

Having read enough of Brad's point, I suspect his point was that if a guy gives a girl an engagement ring on Christmas or Valentine's Day or her birthday, the law can see it as a Christmas/VDay/birthday gift rather than an item given as part of the engagement.  Therefore, if she breaks off the engagement she can keep the ring because it was a Christmas/VDay/birthday and you don't have to give those back if you break up.  Since he's so cynical, he wouldn't want to give her something that he couldn't get back if she broke it off.

That said, even as someone who has learned that tidbit in class a few times, I couldn't imagine not giving my fiance the ring back even if he had proposed on Christmas and I was legally entitled to it, unless he had done something REALLY bad to make me break up with him.  Probably not even then.
