Bottled Beer vs Kegs?

To help keep the bar cost contained a bit we are planning on doing beer, wine and 2 signature cocktails.  If you are buying your own alcohol, has anyone found any big pros/cons about getting kegs over bottled beer? Or vice versa?  Not just cost, but convenience counts too.  Thanks!

Re: Bottled Beer vs Kegs?

  • Bottles are a lot more convenient and faster if this will be self-serve. Lines can form if guests are pumping a keg. But if you have a venue who will be serving beer from a keg on draught, then the convenience factor is probably the same for both options. One nice thing about bottles is that you can get a smaller quantity of a wider variety of choices ( offering 3-5 options). With kegs you'll likely need to pick one or two. I know some people prefer to drink out of a glass. I am not one of then, but you can still offer glasses for people to pour their bottle into if that's a concern for you.
