Dumb question.....

A guest of mine (in just 10 days...yikes!) just asked if cell phones will be an issue. My first thought was, no, and don't worry, they take dollar bills too. But I thought I should ask....

Those of you who've traveled back and forth, have you had any roaming issues? With any providers in particular? My assumption is that unless you're using Metro PCS, your provider should have decent service on the island.

They should check with their provider to see what the roaming costs are in Hawaii. We did not use ours while in Hawaii because when we check we found out that ours were 1.60 per minute. Seemed pretty crazy to us!

I think AT&T pretty much works all throughout the islands...I've never had issues and I've had AT&T for years. I've pretty much traveled t/o the Hawaiian islands with my iPhone! Hehe

I have Verizon with the nation wide plan with data. Looking at the coverage map it looksl ike I have service on the west and north ends of the Maui, all of Oahu and most of the big island. So I believe that its fine calling and texting while on the island.

Well since hawaii is a US state, of course they take us dollars & verizon didnt charge me for international roaming, again because its a US state. I had coverage everywhere (oahu, kauai & maui)

We got a US package for while we're here, and I believe it's with AT&T. At least that's what is says on the top of the phone. We've had texting and calling all over Oahu

I called Verizon just to make sure because secret charges always show up when we travel and they said Oahu is covered under my national plan.

We have tmobile and had no issues on Oahu. I did check coverage prior to leaving.

I've had AT&T for years and have gone to Oahu and Maui many times without any crazy charges & have had great service. I do have a National plan though so if you only have local you may face roaming charges.

If you have a national plan and live int he US you will be fine.

Pretty much ditto...

I have AT&T (iphone) and have no probs. Haha, I think it's funny/interesting that people think they're traveling "international" and kinda forget HI is part of the US...I've overheard some pretty funny things in Costco from visitors ;-)

But I guess its good if everyone checks their phone plans just in case their carriers have any weird secret charges.

We have AT&T and just used our phones like usual there with no roaming. My parents are on Verizon and so is Steve's mom, with Steve's dad on Sprint and we all had no issues!

I have T-Mobile and have never had problems...probably because it is not international since I live in the US.
