Bridal Shower Date?

Hello fellow March brides :) This is my first post on this board so I'll introduce myself a bit! I'm planning a wedding in Pittsburgh from Orlando- so that has been challenging. My fiance and I are getting married 03/23/13! We've got our venue, photog, DJ, my dress, and makeup/hair set up so I think we're making great progress, especially given the distance!

Anyway- I'm writin this post because I'm having a hard time deciding on a shower date and my BMs and mom keep asking. I think we should avoid November and December because of the holidays, but January and February can be trecherous in Pittsburgh in terms of weather. It is okay to do an October shower for a March wedding? Any thoughts you ladies have are MUCH appreciated! Thanks!

    My sister is my MOH and lives out of state so we thought about doing that too, but in the end decided to stick with Jan/Feb even though she won't be able to come and we are in MN and weather can be crazy here too. Figured everyone is used to driving in snow so unless theres a blizzard we should be good =) I'm sure etiquette would say it's not okay, I know they say not to use the gifts until after your wedding, and I'd hate to have to store all the boxes and everything for 5 months, but if your fine with it, then that's what matters =)

    Welcome and congrats! Your wedding date is pretty awesome ;-)

    Personally, I don't think I'd have a shower that early. Typically showers are around a month or two before the wedding. To be totally honest, I don't have much sympathy for weather - like misscrafty I'm in MN so the people that would be at my showers are used to it. I'm scared to death to drive in bad weather so I understand that some people might not make it if there's a big blizzard or something, but that's the risk we take. I'd suggest doing the shower in Jan or Feb but it's up to you and whoever is hosting it. If it really is more convenient for everyone to do it in October, go for it! But I'd do it late October or maybe even early November. Around here weather can be bad anytime between September and April so even that's not a guarantee of better weather! Honestly, I wouldn't plan around weather, but that's just me.

    Thanks for your advice ladies! I'm definitely leaning towards February now, I'll have to be there to do a dress fitting anyway. My older family members are terrified to drive in bad weather, but we'll just have to hope for the best!

    I am getting married on 3/23/13 too! :)
    We are having my shower Presidents day weekend. My bridal party consists of my 4 sisters, my youngest sister is in college in Texas and we thought the 3day weekend would be better for her so she could come and take part in the fun. October seems a bit early for a bridal shower, but with your reasoning i see why it would be ideal for you. If that's what works best, go for it. Like a PP said, i wouldn't completely plan around weather.

    Im getting married that same day also.. My MOH lives in Chicago and I live in  Iowa. She will be home to visit in september. And Planned my shower then, because she will not be back untill a few days before the wedding.

    I'm also getting married on 3/23/13!! I'm in SC.... all I have so far is my venue, I almost have a caterer and thats it.... guess i'm a little behind, lol.... congrats to all!

    Oh ....we're planning the bridal shower for January, my MOH lives in Tampa Florida, and my bridesmaids live in Atlanta, Georgia....that's when they can all come together.... so October's fine if you feel that's better for you and everyone else and the weather.... you are the bride, its your day, ultimately you decide! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif" border="0" alt="Cool" title="Cool" />

    My FMIL and I talked about this yesterday. Our wedding is March 8th, and we decided it would be best to have the shower in November (probably late November).
