Any reviews on these? (Little TMI)

Hi ladies,
So this is a little embarrassing but it's something that I need some advice and help with.  Here is the story, shortly after I started my birth control pills my desire for sex has pretty much diminished.  Right now it's not too much of a problem since my fiance and I have decided to hold off on sex until our wedding night but I don't want this to be an issue when June comes around.  I've been looking online about how birth control can lower sex drive and different birth control pills effect people differently but I just think it would be a pain to go back and forth to the doctor switching birth control pills until I find one that works especially since I don't have insurance.  I also came across Lyriana and Provestra online that are supposed to help with this issue.  Has anyone tried either of these or know anyone who has tried them?  If so, any luck with them?

  • I've never tried those. I'm on Portia (it's a generic for something) and have not had a loss of sex drive. It's really not a pain if it's something that bugs you and you maybe have other symtoms with it? Doctors see patients all the time because they prescribed one medicine and it didn't work, so they go back ton try something else. I just did this with my anxitey medication.

Perhaps "holding off until you're married" is part of your brain pushing the whole no sex drive thing? Actually one of the anixety pills made me not even want to touch or kiss my FI (part of the reason I got off). If it's that bad I would definitely consider switching. There are tons out there! Tell the doctor about your symtoms and they know other birth controls that aren't so bad with specific side effects.

  • I won't take them in fear of this very thing. I don't like the idea of messing with my hormones anyway.

I actually just went off my BC because of a loss of sex drive... and when I say loss I mean like buried under a million rocks never to be found. It finally got to the point that it was just too much, so I went off. I have never heard of Lyriana or Provestra, so I can't help you there. I would just talk to your gyno and see if they have any suggestions.

  • Really, your best bet is to just try out different pills. Your doc may be able to give you multiple samples so you don't have to pay for it. My biochem is weird, so I'm usually switching pills every 6 months. Some kill off my sex drive, others throw it into hyperdrive. What kills it for one person will not even effect another. You can't predict it.

Do not take *anything* without consulting your doctor. A quick google search gives me a very "off" vibe. Scammy, not necessarily safe.
  • I agree your best bet is to just try another bc. I took the nuva ring for awhile and fi called it the ring of anti love because I had no sex drive. No I am on a pill and my sex drive is back to normal. There are so many pills on the market to help sex drive but I don;t think she should result to trying those just yet.

  • I would talk to your doctor. I have a really high sex drive so most BC's do not effect me... but I looked at different BC options for different reasons.. cramps and etc. I am currently on seasonale (I get a period every 4 months) and I love it.
  • Yeah I'd try a few different kinds. BC pills are annoying and I hate messing wtih my hormones. It took me probably 3 years before I found one that didn't make me feel like an emotional mess.

I take this as well. It is generic for Levora and the reason it doesn't lower your sex drive is that is has the lowest possible amount of hormones in it. (I was prescribed this one because it also lowers the stroke risk).

One more trip to the doctor may not be a bad idea since this is a side effect that is effecting your life.
