New home and Wedding

We will be closing on our 1st house on the 23rd of this month and will be getting married on the 23rd of October. I'm really excited and happy but also a little stressed out. Anybody else doing the house and wedding thing in the same year? And if you are how are you holding up?

We are selling and closing our home on May 6th, but our new place can't be moved into till the 20th so we have no place to live for two weeks. Our wedding shower is May 1st with lots of family coming into town (FMI is a nightmare!). Wedding is August 28th in another city and I am doing all the planning alone. And last but not least, I have 18 hrs of school a week which is 20 hrs of homework a week!...I am beyond stressed. But all I can think of is that this will only happen once in my life. I'm young, I'm healthy...I can do it. You can do it too!! When stressed, just open a BIG bottle of wine and hop on The Knot :)

My FI and I closed on our house in late april of 09 and are getting married in May of 2010. I didnt think it really added any extra stress other than wanting to buy new things for the house and having to hold back on some things until after the wedding since we are paying for it ourselves. It's exciting to be starting your lives together with a new home that is both of yours :)

Well we are not buying, however, we are renting a house. Wedding is May 1, we get back from Honeymonn on May 8th, pick up keys for new place on May 10th and have to be out of old place on May 16th.

    So stress you asked.....YES! :)

Yes, and it was very stressFULLLL... we are getting married on 6/12/10, closed on our house on 3/12/10, and just went under contract on our condo on 4/12/10.  (THANK GOD!).  We are also planning everything on our own.  We took a two week break from all wedding stuff when we moved, which was good for our sanity, but now we are paying the price (so plan ahead for this if you can).  We have recently initiated "Moving Mondays" and "Wedding Wednesdays" where we go through what had been done in the last week (moving/house or wedding related on the specific day) and go over what needs to be done during the next week.  It's really helped us get on the same page and has helped us both prioritize.  Not to mention my FI does anything better when you put it in a spreadsheet first!  : )  Good luck, it's going to be worth it come 10/24.

FI and I built a new house. I put my old house on the market last summer and it sold within days so I had to put all my stuff in storage, live with a friend until the new house was complete. We moved into our house during Thanksgiving. We didn't start planning for our wedding until January since it was too hectic with the move.

Financially it's been challenging with the closing of old and new house, buying new furniture and now the wedding. We're still settling in and into the wedding planning now. Luckily my parents have offered to help with wedding costs. I love our new home! Just hang in there and you'll be in your new home soon with your hubby!

i'm coping the same way as ycristina84 above =)  big bottle of wine and great girlfriends, who remind me to KISS (keep it simple sistah) when i'm losing my mind over cake topper selections.  i moved in with the FI in january, rented my house a couple of weeks later, we're redoing our entire yard, building a garage and getting married on october 29th.  what i'm really looking forward to is our month long honeymoon.  cake toppers, what cake toppers?  =)

Thanks for all the comments girls, they are all really helpful. I do have to say that our bridal registry will be a lot easier to fill once we are moved in.

We're in the same boat. We closed on a house in mid-March and are getting married May 15. It's pretty stressful. I was able to stop on the wedding planning for a few weeks while we were getting all of the house stuff in order. That was a big stress reducer.

We realized we couldnt do the renovation on our home and a wedding at the same time so we pushed the wedding back.  Being a total control freak, I couldnt handle both the contractors for the reno and wedding vendors.

We just closed on the sale of our house and purchase of the new house today & the wedding is this Saturday, so I feel your pain! It is stressful but all worth it - especially since you will get the $8,000!! Just take one thing at a time. Focus on the house, focus on the wedding, focus on the honeymoon. Think of it as your big reward for all your stress this year! LOL! Good luck!

We have been in our new home for 2 weeks and it's been wonderful. The whole moving process was a bit stressful but it was all worth it in the end.
