We can't decide where to go for our Honeymoon!?!

Disney/Universal with a little bit of a beach holiday.
or
A Cruise to somewhere tropical.

Groom has never been to Universal or never been on a cruise.
I have not done Disney and I REALLY want to see Hogwarts (i have an inner nerd).
We are not typically beach/saltwater people but we decided that it would be wonderful for a honeymoon. We have not really looked deeply into it yet. We are just trying to get a general idea so we can actually start the process.
Where do
we start? AAA? Cruise to where? How many days are typical?!
Any nice suggestions will be appreciated! Smile

  • Do you want to relax on your vacation, or do you want to stay busy?

If you go to Disney/ Universal, you're going to be busy running from ride to ride. If you go on a cruise, you'll be able to relax while on the ship and in some ports, or you could go on excursions and be busy.

[QUOTE]What's your budget?  What about both?  There are really great three night cruises (we personally love the Disney line - they're more expensive, but totally worth the extra expense!) that leave from Cape Canaveral, about an hour and a half from Orlando.

I was also thinking Disney cruise, but what about all the children?
I dont care about the children at the park. They do not bother me. I welcome it. They bring out the kid in me (which isnt hard)... But if I am to take a cruise to "relax"... are there tons of children on the boat seculde to the middle of the ocean!? Do you understand what I mean? I feel like Im saying it funny lol.

[QUOTE]Oh, and Harry Potter is at Islands of Adventure, which is adjacent to Universal.  Last time we went (in March) we stayed at the Holiday Inn right off International Drive, near those parks.  We paid $30 a night on Priceline and then were able to upgrade to a suite for only $20 more upon arrival.  And honestly, it was really nice!

Oh that sounds wonderful! I may have to find something like that.

I would really encourage you to do what you enjoy now, not what you think you will enjoy.  You really don't want to look back on your honeymoon and realize you didn't enjoy it as much as you would have liked because all you did was sit by the pool or beach and you were bored/hot/etc.  If you like Disney, do it!

FWIW, there are many nice Caribbean cruises. Most ports have excursions that don't involve sitting on the beach. Perhaps you can do Disney for a few days then do a 3-4 night cruise to the Bahamas to relax.

I totally recommend an orlando honeymoon.

That would totally be FI's and my second choice (we're going to Italy).  We both LOVE the parks there, and Orlando is a fun town.

If it were us, we'd stay for at least several days near orlando to go to Universal and Disney parks, but then we'd also drive to a more beachy part for a couple days.  Florida has some great beach towns that would be fun to just go relax.

We've been on two cruises, and we just didn't get it.  I know a lot of people love cruises (maybe you would too!) but we just aren't cruising people.  We like the freedom of choosing where to go and where to eat at any time.  But you can still relax at a nice hotel.  I think an Orlando honeymoon could still be relaxing if you PACE YOURSELVES.  Don't just do all-day trips to the parks every day.  Put in some buffer days and just hang at the pool, go shopping, go to a park, or relax in your room.

  • I say DISNEY ALL THE WAY!!!  Smile
Thats what we are most likely doing!!  My Fiance hasn't been to Universal or Islands of Adventure either...and my FAV place in the world is SEAWORLD (dolphin tank specifically)...I say plan a few "rest days" here and there and you will be fine!!  We are planning on doing Discovery Cove too...which looks AWESOME!!!!!  Hope this helps.

  • We were also thinking about doing a Disney Cruise to the Carribean Islands and also staying a few days at a resort in the Florida Keys or West Palm Beach. I also worried about their being too many kids on the Disney Cruise but after talking to several people who have done several cruises, they told me that of all the cruises they have been on, Disney had the most adult only areas and did a great job at "hiding" the children.  Disney is one brand that really loves to make everyone happy and goes above and beyond to cater to everyone's needs.  I was also told that disney has exceptional food and impeccable service--more than any other cruise ship.  You just have to do what YOU both want best and what would make you happy and not ask to many people because everyone has different tastes.
