Shower Question

So my FSIL, was kind enough to offer to throw a bridal shower for me, the only thing is she was planning this other baby shower and didn't want to start mine until that was over, which only gave her 6 weeks to get invites out and plan. So I guess in the last minute shuffle she left off all my registry information from the invitation, and being the sneaky person that I am of course I have been checking online to see what people have bought. Well I'm sneaky and I didn't want stuff to be discountinued or all the small stuff bought. Anyway, basically nobody has bought anything, and my shower is Saturday. I know this is kinda selfish but I'm kinda worried/upset, I mean, I was looking forward to the gift part of the shower. I know they still have time but ug!

So I guess my question, if you received an invitation to someones bridal shower and it didnt' have any registry information on it, would you still bring a gift?

Re: Shower Question

  • personally I would contact the person hosting the shower and ask if the gust of honor was registered.

  • Yes, I would always bring a gift!

If there was not registry info included, I would think of the 5 most popular places to register in my area and search online to see if they were registered at any of them. If I still didn't find anything, I'd either just give $$, or depending how well I knew them, just select something myself.

  • I'm sure everyone will still bring you a gift I wouldn't worry about that! I'm sure that some guests would contact the host and ask, or like PP said check the top five places... Everyone I know has been registered at Macy's so I would check there, then go down the list.. or I would give a check or gift card... I even send gifts to showers that I can't attend... maybe thats me... but I'm sure you will have plenty to open on Saturday!

  • I would definitely bring a gift, you're supposed to "shower" the bride with gifts!

Lots of people wait until last minute (read: the morning of, no joke) to buy gifts. Don't stress!
  • Thanks all! I was so worried I was going to get hateful comments, like I most likely would have if I posted this anywhere else except for on our August 2012 board. Ladies you really are great!

We are registered at 3 stores, and only two were on the shower invitation because the 3rd (Target) was pretty small.  My shower was yesterday and almost nothing was purchased until mid-week last week.  We ended up getting lots of registry items, and people also bought off of the Target registry even though it wasn't on the invitation.  I think a lot of people bought on the way to the shower.

haha this is so true if you posted this anywhere else you would be flamed for being "greedy" but you have a right to check and look and see.
My shower is in two weeks, and the only things that have been bought are the things my mom and aunt bought and my moms best friend.
nothing else. I did get a big box frm W+S so I went on my registry to see how much stuff was bought (thinking it was a lot of things they combined into a shipment) and only ONE thing is bought from the registry. and my registry info was ON my invites.

  • I agree with PPs that guests would probably call your host/hostess(es).

I registry stalked for my first shower, and surprisingly it took the fun out of it for me because I knew what I was getting lol..  So this time I have only stalked once (last night) and only 2 things have been purchased (my 2nd shower is on Sunday) and I am trying to not look at my registries anymore because I want things to be a surprise!!

Also, I always bring a gift to a shower, even if it is a gift card/cash.  I would look up the bride/groom mother/father (depending on type of shower) to find out where they were registered and if I couldn't find a registry, I'd make sure to get a gift receipt if I was buying a physical gift (not cash/gift card).

I'm sure you will have lots to open on Saturday!!  Have a fantastic time!! :)

  • My shower was this past weekend, I def. Registry Stalked but I had no idea when my shower was going to be, it was a surprise.  I noticed several gifts being bought thursday & friday, trust me people will wait till last minute.  Also I had a mediocre amount of gifts bought off the registry and I still had PLENTY to open, some people like to go there own thing so dont forget that! Dont forget to have fun at your shower!

  • From what I understand at the last few showers I went to.. The Bridal Shower is just about gifts for the bride not wedding gifts.  The wedding gifts were given at the wedding or mailed direct to the couple.  It may be that your FSIL may be thinking the same thing.  My friends invites didnt have registry info in them either.  I just asked for it later.

I was still bring a gift..... that's what you do for showers. I would google stalk looking for your registries or search the popular places (Macys, BB & B, Crate & Barrel, Etc.)
