Poll- Which wedding reception would you rather attend?

We are anticipating 120-150 guests. We will be getting married and holding the reception in the same venue. We will have approx 20-30 out of town guests; the rest will be local. Would you rather attend reception #1 or #2?

Reception #1- guests must be at venue by 10:15 am. Full breakfast at 11:00 am with scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, french toast, rosemary hash browns, breads, juice, coffee/tea, water, wedding cake. NO ALCOHOL at all.

Reception #2- guests can be at venues between 2-3 pm. Veggie display with dip, meat/cheese/cracker display, finger sandwhichs wedding cake, full open bar for 1 hour (whole reception would be limited to 1.5-2hrs..we want it short and sweet either way!)

I would rather have breakfast with no alcohol than lunch with alcohol at 2 in the afternoon.

I voted #2. If you had mimosas at Reception #1, I'd change my vote. Mimosas are the best part of brunch.

I'd rather have a full, interesting brunch than just snacks and drinks for 1 hour. That's 1-2 drinks per person. Then I don't have to go out and find my own brunch and dinner, either. Especially for OOT guests.

I would do the brunch reception because I'm a big foodie and it sounds delicious.

I voted for #2 because morning is way too early to be all dressed up and ready to go for me.

10:15 is not that early, IMO. I get to work at 8:30 so... If I lived reasonably close, 10:15 means I'd be up by 8am, which is not a problem when I wake up at 6:30am on weekday anyhow.

Do the earlier one with mimosas and bloody mary's.  Why no alcohol at the earlier one?
  • edited December 2011
Normally I would pick pretty much anything over an early wedding, but this is a completely reasonable hour for me.  Additionally, I think the brunch options sound better than the lunch choices, and the lack of alcohol is fine - I wouldn't really drink at lunch, either, despite the open bar.  I also like that the brunch reception leaves me free to do whatever I want for the rest of the day; even though the lunch is short, it would still kill my morning and afternoon.

#2 for sure not much of a breakfast or morning person

I picked #2. Although the brunch sounds delicious, I'm not a morning person and I think I would enjoy an afternoon reception much more.

I vote for brunch--alcohol or not, but if you added mimosas (or bloody mary's!), it would be the hands down winner, no questions asked. I really love the brunch concept, I think that's a nice way to keep it simple.

I voted for the brunch because 120-150 seems like a lot of people for a short, snacky finger food type reception.

I voted for #1.  I love brunch so much that we make brunch for supper once a week. And I agree with the other pp and add mimosas.  At least it has OJ in it!

I voted #2. Although I personally love breakfast foods and don't think 10:15am is early, I think a alot of people like to sleep in on the weekend and many people don't even like breakfast food.

I voted #2. Most breakfast buffets I've seen haven't been done very well so I'd rather have finger foods and a drink!

I vote for #2, I don't like mornings and if I wanted to get my hair and make-up done, it wouldn't leave a lot of time to get ready. I also think there's more people who don't like breakfast food than lunch type foods.

I voted number 1. I agree with some of the previous posts...I would have my day still open after the reception, and I really don't like drinking at 2pm...even if its an open bar. :) Happy wedding planning!
