Photography

Ok, now that I am officially planning my wedding (wahoo!) I have some questions.

Anyone have suggestions for reasonable photography?  And can you share approximates of what you are paying?  I got a quote from 1 place for 1400 (2 camera guys, rights to photos, engagement session, blah blah blah)  just curious, if there's better work/cheaper places...I do want 2 guys to catch the candids of both guys and girls getting ready...

Second - Thoughts about the throwaways on the tables?

Third - websites, twitter, instagram, etc.  that guests can share their photos to so I can get them?  Anybody tried this, trying this or foregoing?

Ok, that's it for now.  There are SO many details I never realized until I crossed the threshold.  WOW

Madem...D posted something re:  Photographers on the board a few months back, here is the link

As far as throwaways for the table...do you mean cameras?  Sorry, I just want to be sure.  If you mean cameras, I did that for my first wedding back in 2004.  I am not sure if it's an outdated thing now with FB and Twitter and other social media sites.  I think everyone would have their digital cameras and could forward their pictures to you via email and then you can post the ones you like on the social media site of your choice to share with everyone.

By the way I'm paying $1850 for 7 hrs. of photography on the day of.  One photographer.  This amount includes an engagement shoot (1 hr. 2 sets of clothes).  Instead of an engagement session you could do bridal shoot, "rock the dress" shoot, or a boudoir shoot)

  • For Twitter/Instagram, I'm going to ask guests to use a hashtag so I can easily track all photos.

I've seen a couple of blog posts about this and I think it's really cute: http://www.stylemepretty.com/gallery/picture/754300
  • Check out the link Miss V posted on her post. I made the list maybe a month or two back and some of our ladies have found it helpful in finding a photographer who met their needs and budget. From my experience, it wasn't easy finding a photographer who met our needs and stayed within our budget which was under 3k. We almost booked another photographer who was above 3k until we met our photographer, Gloria Ruth. She is simply amazing, she has awesome talent and the most sweetest person you will meet and work with. FI and I thought she was out of our budget because the quality of her work until she showed us packages and we were sold. Her packages are reasonable and you get a lot. We got her $2500 package which includes all-day wedding coverage, 2 photographers, an engagement shoot (no time restrictions, ours was 3 hours long!), album, full editing of all your images for wedding and engagement session, and printing rights to all your images. I believe that is everything or at least everything I can remember now, lol. A lot of photographers will not do full editing on all their images because it's A LOT of work so very few offer this service and we get all the good ones edited.

I would suggest checking out Photobucket and give your guests the username and password so they can share their pics.
  • Be wary of photographers with '6 hour and 7 hour' packages - I had no idea until my photographer pointed it out to me, that most wedding days are about 9 hours long for the photographer and videoographer (if they come to get pictures of you getting ready) and then in the middle of the reception the run out of time and you have to pay the overtime fee. Check your contract to see how much that is! My very best friend ran out of time and had to pay $1200 extra for overtime, and they wouldnt give her any photos or videos until she did. It was a disaster!

Good point.  I'm doing everything all in one place, so it won't be an issue for me, thank goodness.

  • Wow thank you ladies so much.  Great points.  I will be checking out the thread posted.

I like the hashtag idea, but, not everyone is so tech savvy so thought the old school way might be good too!

Again, thank you so much for sharing info.

For our photo share, I set up a page on Shutterfly and we got free business cards from Vistaprint that we put a quote, the photo share link and the password attached to their escort cards (meant to put in with the favors but totally forgot) so we don't have to worry about sending back and forth to everyone.
