Texas-Dallas and Ft. Worth

Am I Crazy to Switch Venues!?

So I have been having MAJOR issues with the Omni in Ft Worth. They have booked out all the rooms, so my guests can't stay there. The lady never answers my emails and I'm just now "allowed" to do my tasting, but they are only letting me try 2, but I want to serve 3. It's just been a frustrating process. I want to use this as grounds to break my contract and hopefully get a refund of my $1600 deposit.

I spoke with Katherine at Marty Leonard Chapel and she suggested a new venue that opens May 21st! So it will most likely be available (waiting on email response). Its the Botanic Research Institute of Texas, next door to the Botanical Gardens. From what I here about it, it sounds like exactly what I wanted (the kimball art museum was my first choice, but too $$$). I'll get more info soon, so I can look at catering costs, ect..

So am I crazy for wanting to switch locations? I haven't bought invites yet :)

Does your event contract state how many rooms they will hold for you or how many food choices you can taste, and when?    If so, I'd say no your not crazy.

The event contracts that I've seen are rarely that specific though, so it could get a little sticky.

Either way, sorry your having trouble and good luck!

Well, I switched to Marty Leonard Chapel with only 6 months left before my wedding.

I think that if you can get your money back and be happy with your decision, then do it.  I don't regret using Marty Leonard Chapel one bit... in fact, I'm relieved that I did!

ETA:  I realize that you have MLC booked already... I meant that I was happy with my decision to switch. :)

That's a tough one.  Be aware that a new venue could also have its share of problems.  I had my reception at a hotel too and had various things come up but we were always able to come to some sort of resolution and in the end everything worked out fine.  That does suck about the guests though.

Lynn Michelle has a couple of pics up of BRIT on her blog--she speaks highly of it.

I wouldn't want to steal this venue from you, unless they could accomodate both of us of course, but I'm still looking for a venue as well. Do you care if I email the contact at BRIT?

According to her bio page, her wedding is August 20th, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the Omni. I'm going to the Brit for a tour Tuesday on Katherine's recommendation also! :) Seems great... I can let you know more then.

I would say if you can get your money back go for it. I know we had issues with communication with our hotel for a while, but as it is getting closer to the wedding the coordinator is way more responsive now.
If the other place is more appealing go for it!
