would I be crazy if?

In our wedding we have our niece as a JR bridesmaid.  Originally I planned to order the fabric to match the Bridesmaids dresses, but it is $25 a yard and I am having trouble finding a pattern and would pay someone to sew it (I would not have the time or patience).

Today on Ebay I found the dress in the right color, but it is a size 8. Our niece will be just shy of 11, so I am not sure if it would take way too much to alter the dress to fit her. Then I would have fabric left to make the sashes for the FG dresses!

Would I be crazy to buy it, the bids start at $75 and buy it now is $125.

This is the dress

It totally depends on your niece. I was like a size 12 and 5 feet tall when I was 11. I would find out her size now and talk to a seamstress (like Britt said) and see what the difference in between her current size and an 8 would be. Its really pretty though! Good luck!

I am not sure what the best plan would be but I did want to tell you that dress is really pretty!

Thanks ladies, they are actually wearing it in a deep blue, it looks gorgeous!

One of my bridesmaids is a pretty good sewer, she said go for it, it is easier then recreating the dress, and the extra length should be enough to trim for FG sashes.

I would just watch the bust area. That is a beautiful dress, but it's pretty low cut for an 11 year old, especially if she doesn't have much to fill it out with. If that's the case, then the top might need a lot of work - possibly more than it's worth depending on what needs to be done to it.
