Love my ring, but worried about size

I'm new to The Knot (newly engaged!) and excited to be a part of the community. I just need some quick advice about my ring.

It's not too big that it's going to fall off (I live in a cold climate, so I know my fingers are shrunken down right now) but It is just slightly too big and sometimes twists around. We are going to go get it resized at the jeweler's where my FI bought it, but not for two more weeks, as it's a few hours' drive away. Until then, can anyone recommend a place (preferably a chain -- I live near Boston) to get a ring guard or one of those squishy plastic things to take up the small amount of space between my finger and the band? I'd really appreciate it! :)

  • I have a Zales, but the Kay's is closer by -- there's also a few other ones. I just want to make sure they will help me even if my ring isn't from there. Thanks for the help!

  • Congrats on your engagement!

You'd have to pay for a ring guard or a squishy thing so I'm sure any company would help you regardless of where your ring was purchased. They just want your money.

  • That's a good point :) I'll stop at the Kay nearby and see what they say. Of course I'm willing to spend a few bucks to make sure I don't lose it!

  • I don't know how much the guards are, but I know someone that just wrapped scotch tape around the bottom a few times, which helped. I definitely wouldn't use it as a long term solution, but if it is just for a couple weeks, and it doesnt scratch you at all, I'd do it. But then again, I am cheap :)
  • I got my ring snuggies at Claire's.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I had actually been using scotch tape yesterday, but wanted something slightly more stable. I wandered into a Kay Jewelers at the mall nearby, and for $15 they put a fitted guard on it. It feels very secure now. Of course, I am going to get it resized in two weeks, but for the time being I feel much better about it being snug. :)

  • I had that problem too and I just put another plain ring /band I had on top to make sure it stayed on . Then we went to get it sized but luckily I get it back on Saturday.. yay lifetime waranty from Littmans... Apparently I was not sized properly the first time we went looking and I'm even smaller then I thought.... I hope it fits and it's too small ...

  • Congrats on your engagement!

I just thought I'd share this little word of advice from my own ring-sizing experience:

Your e-ring may fit differently once you are wearing it with your band. Therefore, if you have your band already, I suggest having them sized together. If not, just keep in mind that you might need to have your ring resized again once you have the band. Of course, this depends on the design/shape of your rings. It was an issue for me, but maybe not for everybody.

Since it sounds like yours is dangerously large right now, you probably don't want to hold off on having it properly sized soon. You jeweler can probably advise you further on pairing your ring with a band (unless it is a set already) and how they will fit.

    Happy engagement!

I did this.  Bought a 2mm white gold band 1/4 size smaller than my ER just for the winter months.  My ER fits when it is warm, but my hands shrink horribly in the winter, and even with the euro shank, it would spin on my finger.
