Dessert/appetizers instead of formal dinner??

We were thinking of foregoing the traditional sit down/buffet dinner and instead just having a ton of appetizers and desserts....ideas on this?

I like this idea especially if you do stations. is this a DIY food project or catered?

I love the sandwhich stations. You could have one with small bread rolls to make mini sandwhiches.

A cheese and dip station. With sourcream dips like spinach and onion also humus and even a bruschetta, cheese balls, cut up cheese and meat and serve with crackers, cut up veggies and bread slices. Also a yogurt dip with cut up fruit.

the above website has links to recipes and the direct web page is for cake balls. I love the idea they are simple and tasty and would be a nice added dessert!

    Yum, cake balls!

Anyway...I think lots of apps and desserts sounds good.  If it is a mealtime, you will need to provide enough food (quantity/variety) that people can make a meal out of what you're serving.  I would also have seating and tables for everyone, although you could have higher tables and bar stools and lounge furniture in the mix if you wanted a different feel.

Oh my goodness!!! This is EXACTLY what I want to do for my  wedding too!! But, my mom won't let me. haha, I feel like I'm five.  I don't want an early afternoon wedding, which is when she says I would have to have the wedding for that type of menu. Good luck though, I think it's  a fabulous idea!

If you are serving alcohol, you need to make sure you have enough food to soak it up...
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

We're not going to have an early ceremony....we're thinking a later one actually...

if the ceremony or reception starts before 7pm, as a guest i'd probably show up hungry for dinner.  heavy apps are filling but are usually richer than a main course so that menu kind of upsets my stomach when i'm hungry for dinner.

but i might be high maintenance. :)  everybody loves apps and desserts, if you're having a late wedding at a club that would be perfect!
