to get or not to get a VIDEOGRAPHER

Hey!!
So I have been told by many people that I should get a videographer.  I would love to but they are all priced so high.  What do you guys think, is it neccesary or could I do without.  if you think i should, who has reasonable prices?!?

Re: to get or not to get a VIDEOGRAPHER

  • Personally, a videographer was an expense we couldn't afford. My dad is going to have a video camera set up in the balcony of the church to record the ceremony- that's the most important part of the day, anyway!

  • I thi nk in the modern era of iPhones with 8MP cameras, unless you want something polished it isn't necessary. You can ask your guests for whatever they take and I'm sure family members and close friends will be taking pics/videos of the important stuff.

  • We are having my cousin record the important stuff at the reception and the church records the ceremony for us. IMO, if you have a quality photographer, you shouldn't need a videographer.

  • I was married before and did not hire one...someone took video for us, we watched it a total of 1 time....I would save the money.
  • I had the same debate with myself- but in the end, it just wasn't in our budget. We do not have one, but we plan on getting someone with a video camera to record the ceremony for us and maybe some parts of the reception. I have talked to others who had a videographer, and while it's a cool thing to show your kids 10 years from now, thats about the only time it will be used.

  • We opted to not get one and I don't regret it. We chose to use that money towards other things and I am glad we did. Photography is super important to me, I am glad I splurged in that area and skipped a video that we would rarely watch anyway.

  • I was also so back and forth with the video.. but we opted for it. However, the reason we are opting for it is becuase we found a reasonable videographer that i trust. The person that is doing it went to high school with my sister and does not charge outrageous amounts  because it's associated with the word wedding.

Also, my sister had a videographer at her wedding and it's something her and her husband watch every anniversary. I'm the type of person that gets overwhelmed easily and my brain flakes out so I want to be able to go back and watch what exactly happened in the special moment. .. Then again i nearly blacked out when my FI proposed!

If you need a recommendation let me know! :)

  • I guess I'm in the minority, but I'm pro-videographer for the same reasons @heb listed.  I ended up going with a vendor who randomly graduated from my same small, out-of-state college. I have a variety of vendor quotes, some of which are very reasonable. Let me know if you want any.
  • Hey I would love to see the. Ideographers that you have!! Thanks!!
  • Who was your photographer!?
  • Who is te videographer you got!?
  • I had this same dilemma and this is where the long engagement kicked in because I was able to budget for it. Some vendors are ridiculously expensive - but we went with Candace Pieto from Pittsburgh Wedding DVD. She was under 2K. She is really good about responding to emails quickly and both FI and I were very impressed with her demo DVD. Another knottie raved about her videographers - Valley Vision Videography and I did look into them but they were unavailable for our date. They are under 1K. Hope this info helps. I'm really glad we decided for it - I have a feeling the day will fly by and it will be good to have more memories.

  •  I was debating the same thing.  We have a family friend doing our photography for us.  I asked friends, family, and co-workers about getting a videographer and the results seemed to be not to.  Most said to just have a friend or family member record it for you.  A lot of women told me that if they did have one they never watch the video anyways. I'm not going to get one, I just think it is a huge amount of money that can be put into something else.  I am going to do what they said and have someone record it for us.  Chances are it will probably not get watched more than once anyways.  Good luck with your choices!
