I'm getting married in Aug and we are having are wedding at The Historic Stowe Building. When we first looked at it the venue it wasn't done at all it was still under construction. We spoke with a lady about catering at Hy vee and she said that she was gonna deliver a cake there. So I asked her to take pics and send it to me. She said that it was a mess!!! There was sawdust every were she said things were not done they were still painting and that was 2pm the wedding was at 5pm.. The pictures that she sent me were not what I expected or told it was gonna look like.. What should I do???? HELP I'm afraid that it's not gonna be done or im not gonna like the finished product... IS anyone else getting married there???

I'm not getting married there, but if you're getting married in August, one thing to keep in mind is that August is like 5 months away, and you can get ALOT of construction done in 5 months. You may contact them and express your concerns, but I would keep in mind that chances are the majority, if not all of the construction would be done by then.

I am also getting married there in December. I would also be interested in the pics if possible. Thanks!

I sent an email to the owners to find out if there is a date the 9th floor is projected to be finished and also if I could take another tour. I haven't been there since November. I will let you know what I find out. :)

    Hello!

I received a response from Ryan and he said they are having an open house on April 8th from 6-9pm. This is a pic he sent from the wedding this weekend.

I understand your concern.  Ask for another site tour in the next month...see if the bathrooms have been installed and if the windows have been updated.  It was my understanding that it was to remain rough/rustic and the updates to the building would be minimal.

When you signed your contract did the proprietor show you sketches or make it clear what it would look like when it was finished? Perhaps it's supposed to look more rustic or undone. I signed with another venue but I'm interested to see what this place looks like when everything is complete.

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures.  I've been down there fairly recently, but to see it set up with lights and everything it looks great!  I know that it will only get better from here on out!  I can't wait!

We just toured Stowe today (3/16/11) and the 9th floor looked great.  It was clean and almost everything construction wise was completed for that floor.  They're working on getting the lounge furniture ordered which will be placed in the elevators, the bathroom lounge areas and also in one corner of the 9th floor.  The 2nd floor is still a mess but I think that's because they had folks in there actively working on the electric and plumbing during our tour.  They're also installing decking on the rooftop and screens to cover the cell towers and other "problem areas" of the roof that can't be avoided (i.e. airconditioners).  I think it will look really nice once everything is complete in a few months.

Is anyone going to the open house that can take photos and post a review afterward?
Maybe confront them in front of everyone about the posts of lacking permits, air conditioning, etc?  I am still leary and would go myself if I wasn't out of town that weekend.
Yes there are positive posts but how can I know if they are legit?  My wedding is in July and I am so stressed at the fact that I was told it would be done by March for me to view so I can start visualizing the decor and such...UGH!

Is the open house still happening?  I have the Stowe booked for my reception next April.  With all that was on the news i'm starting to worry that they dont have the money to finish everything, or give my deposit back!  Luckily, I guess, I still have plenty of time to find somehwere else if needed.

I am also getting married here in July of 2012. I'm hoping for the best! The owner of the Stowe Building (Ryan Crowell) also owns The Mission Theatre, and if you look at some revews on The Mission Theatre, he seems to be very genuine. Here are the reviews.. http://www.weddingwire.com/reviews/the-mission-theatre-mission/25fdf7c3bebf7471.html

I still have over a year before my wedding, but I cannot imagine the stress the REALLY soon to be brides are feeling. I pray they are working hard to get the proper permits and everyone has a fabulous wedding day!

I was supposed to get married there April 10th. He continued to promise me it would be done. If he told you it wouldn't be do you have that in an email form? There is a chance I may have to go to court to get my $2000 back. He told us just 4 days before the wedding and reception that it would be closing due to lack of permits and licences. I had to scamble in just 4 DAYS to rebook a wedding for 150 people! I got help from fox four news and things turned out great. We are now just hoping Ryan does the right thing and refunds our money so we can pay off the venue we were able to use.

I'm glad everything turned out great for you jcmckay! I was wondering when I saw your story how things went, I can't even imagine finding out four days before my wedding that I can't use my venue.
