Ring Insurance Question

Hey sistahs,

I hope everyones wedding planning has been going well. I just had a question for those that have gone thru the process of getting their rings insured. So when we bought our rings we had a 2 year theft protection plan. The 2 years is just about up on both our rings so I am looking in to maybe adding them to our homeowners policy. Is this what you normally do or is it better to go thru a private insurance company? We also bought our bands from Zales and they told me its about 100 per ring to appraise. I'm not sure if this is reasonable or not. Any info anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. TIA

</div><div>I can't remember how much it was to appraise but I am pretty sure it wasn't 100 per a ring. I think the total bill for all three was about $140. I will check the receipt when I get home. We got it done at a local jewelry store. Just google appraisal near your zip code and call around for prices. One person did tell us $50/ hr, so it does vary. They then took a few days to prepare the official documents then I faxed it to our insurance company. We don't own, so we just added a jewelry rider to our policy. We have car and renters insurance with farmer's.</div>

  • We added both my rings to our homeowner's policy.  I didn't price additional policies so I don't know how the pricing or coverage compares but the HO premium only went up by a few dollars.  Our appraisals were provided by the jeweler at no charge at the time of purchase.

  • I went through jewelers mutual. Did everything online...local jeweler appraised for like $75 and I scanned and uploaded my appraisal...I pay like $30 per yr.

  • I don't know difference between home/private. I have mine on under home, however, Make sure you read documents, because if you put it under home- and if anything does happen, they cap the recoup amt for ALL jewelry. I'm not for sure, but I think mine is $1500. max amt they'll give me if fire/break in/ etc....
