When did your wedding nightmares start?

I've been having the dreaded wedding day nightmares and we're still a little over a year and a half out. Is this even normal? Sure there are times where I'm stressed already, but we also have a good chunk done and our checklist is already on the 9-11 months out with other random things marked off throughout the whole thing. So long story short, am I normal? When did your nightmares start? Does anyone have them?

Re: When did your wedding nightmares start?

  • I've only had one and it was a doozy. The images are fuzzy now but I remember something about me not having my dress to which my FI refused to marry me. I woke up feeling horrible. It took me awhile to realize it was just a dream. I think these dreams will happen regardless of what you do. I'm on schedule with my vendors and planning, yet I still get stressed. Don't worry about it. I tell my FI what happens and we have a laugh.

Haha, I did not realize this was a thing. I have nightmares whenever I do extensive planning. Sometimes I can have up to a 90 hour week, so when I plan I do it in large chunks during a rare period of free time. When I've had nightmares it's usually something along the lines of the wedding date got changed to tomorrow and everyone is mad at me that I can't have everything ready by then. :$

I also get a lot of general anxiety while planning. There's a lot of contention (and not so much tact) built up between more than a few of my guests (guests which I absolutely cannot get out of inviting), and I am more than prepared (read: full out expecting) to see someone get in an argument and/or asked to leave. Obviously, I'm picturing a worst case scenario, and hope that those particular guests can keep themselves together for a single evening. But, none the less it was definitely on my mind when I picked out a venue that came with a fully stocked bar and bartender. Because god knows if something blows up I'm just gonna make a bee line to the bar to down a VERY dry matrini. Haha. />.<
Don't mind me... I haven't slept since last Wednesday.
  • I've had 2 so far and FI had one. In one of mine, I forgot the liquor license and was desperately trying to convince the people to issue it the day before. In FI's he forgot to have all our music ready. I always dream about things that are stressing me out even a little. Or things that I spend alot of time on.

  • I had a few when we were about 6 months out, but I found that if I refused to allow myself to think about the wedding while I was in bed, the weird wedding dreams stopped.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I've had 2. Since I relaxed on the planning/stressing I haven't had anymore.

  • I had one about a month before he proposed, but I haven't had one since. I was marrying someone I don't know in real life, and in the dream I wasn't really in love with him. The day of the wedding, I realized he wasn't the man I wanted to marry, but I felt bad that everyone had come to the wedding, and we had paid for everything anyway, so I was going to go through with it. For some reason, I didn't know my bridesmaids, and I had no hairdresser or anyone to do my makeup (I suck at doing my own). I was getting ready all on my own, and I was devastated and lonely.

It took me an hour after waking up to fully understand it wasn't a dream because everything seemed so real even though everything was so out of character for me. I'm really hoping I don't wind up having more as our date approaches.
  • Started basically as soon as we really started planning. I'm averaging like one a week. Lol

  • I might be a little different since we dated for 5 years before getting engaged, but I've been having wedding nightmares all of 2012, possibly a little earlier, and we only got engaged in September.  Some people just have overactive imaginations!

Then again, I've noticed that when I spend the night at my FI's I don't have any kind of nightmares.  (I just wake up cold, because he obviously stole the covers from me AGAIN.)

  • The only nightmares I've had have been about my mother standing up during my ceremony and somehow ruining it. Or my mom deliberately ruining my dress because she doesn't approve of it being semi-backless. Or my mom standing beside me and whispering terrible things about me in my ear the entire day. All of which I wouldn't put past her to do. Well, the first and last ones would be too obvious, and I wouldn't put up with it. I'm sure she'd figure out a way to "accidently" ruin my dress. Yes, I have mommy issues. XD

That, and a really strange dream about a childhood friend that I had feelings for back in the day getting all upset because I was getting married.
  • I had a dream before we were even engaged that it was our wedding day and I had somehow forgotten to ask my best friend to be a bridesmaid or to even invite her! She was pissed in the dream!

  • We've been engaged since October 10, 2012 and our wedding is October 27, 2013. I've have 3 wedding "nightmares", but all of them were absolutely ridiculous and laughable. In the first one, I managed to dip my dress in the toilet and my MOH didn't show up on time. In the second, I once again peed on my dress and everyone at my reception was in jeans and Hawaiian shirts! My entire wedding party (husband included!) decided they were going to stay in a different reception hall because it was more fun than the one I reserved, then they got mad at me when I insisted on going back to MY hall. And in my most recent one (just a few nights ago!) my bridesmaids were all in the wrong dresses because they decided they didnt like the one I picked out, there were a bunch of random kids and people in jeans that I don't know as my guests, and my flowers were green and yellow with orange stems and the thorns kept picking my dress. So I think what my brain is try to tell me is that apparently I'm worried about peeing on my dress and people showing up in jeans! I just wake up, rehash the details of the dream with my mom and laugh at how ridiculous the whole thing was lol!
