Maid of Honor, Best Man + OTHER special position?

My fiance and have both have family filling in the Maid of Honor and Best Man positions.

We both have the same best friend, a guy, who we want to give a special position too.  The grooms side is looking fuller than mine (I don't have many female friends) and we don't just want to make him an usher.

We wish there was a third position a lot like maid of honor or best man that we could give him.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

I've really thought about that but my fiance wants to keep it traditional for the pictures and ceremony.  I was hoping to find another solution like an "honor attendant" of some kind to be in the program but not stand during the ceremony.  In my head, this seems like a good compromise and I know he would go for it.  Just wondering if anyone else has seen/done anything similar.

  • There is no such thing as an "honor attendant." I would either have him stand on your side or make him a reader.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

So... it's more important to have even looking sides and pretty pictures than to "honor" this man you're both such good friends with?

Do him a favor, and don't do anything. He can be a guest. Because your (at least your FI's) priorities are for everything to look pretty as opposed to actually honoring this individual.

(And why can't he stand on your side, or why can't your FI have two best men? My H did.)

  • Ditto, Retread.

That's pretty sad if you're going to exclude one of your good friends just because you want to carry on some "tradition" for pictures. If you want to have him in your wedding either put him on your side or your FI's side. If not then don't give him a made up role. There is so honor in that.

  • Tradition also dictates that your husband can beat you if you displease him, owns you like property, and can take your children from you.

So.... yeah..... tradition's an awesome reason not to honor someone.  Fo sho.

  • I agree with PPs. Your friendship should be more important than "traditional" pictures.

The only other thing I can think of, since he's both of your's best friend, is (if you're not doing a church wedding) to check with the local laws, see if they'll allow it, and get him ordained online and he can perform the ceremony.
  • Here are some ideas:
If you're getting married in a church, have him do one (or more) of the readings, or if you're not getting married in a church, you could still have him read a special passage that you like
He could escort your flower girl down the aisle and then just sit in the front row, and not have to stand next to the Groom (if your groom wants it to be more traditional)
You could ask him to introduce you as husband and wife for the first time instead of the DJ at the reception
I'm finding more and more on these message boards that these to-be brides give snarky replies instead of offering helpful advice.  You can certainly make up a position if you think he'll go for it, it's your wedding, so include him in a way that feels right :)
  • if is that important to get a "special position" then make him a Best Man (yes your FI can have two) or a groomsman.  Doesn't matter if he has more people on his side.
