Ruined dress?

I posted some pictures of my dress I bought on a fitness site, just excited to have found my dress! I received my actual dress yesterday, tried it on and finally got pictures with the belt I purchased for it. I absolutely love it. Yet it seems some of the women felt like telling me my belt "ruined" my dress, and something with ruffles should have no belt. Instead, I should look for sparkle "elsewhere". Mind you, I love my dress exactly how I bought it. The belt will be a part of my dress on my wedding day, but it just irked me. Why see I'm so excited about it, and just tear me apart for it, telling me I ruined a dress.

Here's the two sets. The first ones are when I tried it on in August, a size 6, so naturally fit better than the 8 I bought it in (bought it a tick big just to be safe, figuring it could be brought in).

That's when I first did. A 6 in ivory, not to mention I had a nice tan then, lol

This is my actual dress. Obviously a bit big, but I love it

I honestly don't get belts on corset back dresses, but that's just me.  Maybe that's what they mean buy it ruins the dress by covering the back.  I do like the bling though, maybe a seamstress can attach it so it's part of the dress without having to tie in the back.

That's what I plan on doing. I don't want the strings hanging down either, so I'm gonna have them attach it
  • We just kinda threw it on yesterday. The dress needs to be majorly brought in up top. The bust is way higher than it's going to be

[QUOTE]Those women have too much time on their hands.  The belt looks beautiful. Until the advent of zippers, all dresses closed with lacing or hook-and-eyes.  Plenty of women wore belts with those gowns. Tell them, "Thank you for offering your opinion of my gown.  I'll give that the attention it deserves."  Combine this with The Look if you wish (you know the one.....Cold, Icy Stare Of Death), and that should shut them up.

Honestly, I think it looks better without the belt, and here's why: the belt adds bulk right across the narrowest part of your torso (as that is where you have placed it in the photos). Without the belt your waist appears more defined and you look a lot curvier. It could just be the angles of the photos, however (the frontal beltless photo was taken from a more flattering angle than the other one). And all that being said, the belt far from "ruins" the dress. You know what looks better in person and we don't. As long as you feel beautiful and ready to do on your wedding day, that's all that matters!
  • To be fair, I've had some thyroid failing issues since the first pics and now, which has lead to weight gain. Not much, but enough. So that may be why it looks a bit less curvy. And it needs to be altered to fit snugger. This is it now, without a belt

  • And thanks everyone. I do love the belt and it is staying for sure. Just bugs me being told it looks terrible with it. Just venting I guess =P All I see wrong is I need to hit a gym and an alterations department!
  • They're crazy, don't listen to them.  As long as you do the alterations you are talking about, it sounds like the end result is going to be stunning!  The effect together is already very pretty.
