What do you need? Do you and FI live together already? If no, then you might need everything/almost everything. If yes, or if you each have your own place right now, you may just want to "upgrade" things.

Store's usually have checklists in store (and online) to help you out. But really it depends on what you need/want. I would start by making a list with those things and go from there.

We live together and consolidated houses so had tons of "stuff".  For a few months we kept a list of things that we thought needed an upgrade or found to be lacking, then we created our registry.  It worked great.  Good sheets and towels are always a necessity and no one ever hesitates in buying those!

FI and I lived together already, so we registered for a few "upgraded" items, but we also registered for our honeymoon at honeyfund.com. So far, it has worked out great. Our honeymoon was completely paid for after our shower, so anything from the wedding is going to help us with some improvements to our house :)
