pre-marital counselling

did you all go through your church?

we dont ahve a church... i dont know if we will find one before

but we need to have some sessions so i dont strangle him uh i mean so we can communicate better lol

any suggestions?

I see you're in Baltimore. Prior to church counseling we did counseling through my university. I would look up a marriage and family therapist. Most of the time your health insurance covers something like 6 sessions!

Sounds like something i need to do because sometime i could go just chop him up in little pieces and sit there and wait on the cops to come LOL

We see a psychologist. And J is right, me working for a major health insurer, there is something called EAP or employee assistance program through ones employer that will cover you for up to a limited number if sessions per issue for FREE. For example, if you want to go for counseling you alone, that is considered 1 issue and up to 5 sessions are covered free of charge. Or, if you want to go for couples therapy or premarital, that is considered a separate issue and another 5 sessions would be free of charge. It just depends on the specifics of employers EAP program.

We're going through my university. FI is a little iffy about counseling since I'm a counselor he thinks me and the counselor will gang up on him please he claims I use counseling mumbo jumbo on him all the time

We started through the current church that I attend, but that didn't work. So we went through our current officiant who is the Pastor of the church I grew up in. Have you found an officiant yet? Start there.

and then they still may not take you because you aren't necessarily a harm to yourself or others. They may just leave u in the floor.

PP... OMGEEE... IM DYING OVER HERE!!!... don't you watch snapped... gotta cover ur tracks...lol.. wonder if they have therapy for that.. lol... jk SERIOUSLY...i think counseling is great.. there are things they ask about that a lot of couples really dont consider..

You mentioned your FI lives in PG. I hear the counseling at Reid Temple is amazing! I went to Spirit of Faith Christian Center when I lived in DC and Pastor Mike's Marriage Made EZ counseling sessions are great! They are the 1st friday of each month and he encourages (requires) all his engaged couples at the church to attend. You could look into counseling through SOFCC because they have a location in Temple Hills (where I went), Brandywine (South Md) and Ellicott City which is closer to Bmore. I LOVE just LOVE my church. For real.

There is also a place called The Life Center. It is off of Allentown Road. If you take 495 to exit 7 you will see it. I hear they are very good there. I actually saw their marriage counseling ministry on CNN during that segment Black in America. Hope that helps.
