Help: Last minute decision!!

So we had our wrap up meeting at the venue and I have wanted black table clothes and found out that they are available. The wedding planning lady basically said they look bad. So here are two pics, 1 with black table cloth, 1 with white table cloth (not my venue, just inspiration pics). We are having black and white damask table runners. The napkins will be opposite color of what we choose for the table linen.

white table:

Black table (our actual runner and set up)

Our venue is Carlson Towers-Rotunda, we will have silver chivary chairs (sp?).

I think the black looks very classy - the white is nice but seems like it is used so much at all types of events

How much more would the Black ones be? if they are the same as the white ones...I'd go black, if they are a lot more, stay with white.

Agreed! The black shows the damask better, the white makes it fade into the background more.

I agree--white is so common, and you had always envisioned black tablecloths... I say still go for it if you like the look. I think it's classy too.

I like contrast.  I'm assuming the plates will be white? Then they'd look nice against black tablecloth too!

Def. the black. I think it makes the damask stand out more and is a much more modern look.

I voted black but I would caution you to see the actual table cloth before making a final decision.  I am wondering if the reason she does not recommend the black ones are that they are not good quality.  After getting washed many times they may not look as nice.  Worth checking out.  Hopefully they look wonderful.

Veijes - did Dawn say the black would look bad?

We are having black table clothes for our wedding.  I was worried that maybe it would look too dark in there, but last wkd my mom and I ran out there on Saturday to check out the venue again and that wedding had black table cloths (which we didn't know) and it looked nice.  The only thing I noticed was that the black tableclothes were not as long as the white ones so they don't go to the floor.  You'd only notice this when no one is in the room.  My mom didn't even notice it so it was just that I look into all the details.

I agree with PP, if you've seen the black tablecloths and they are still in good shape then I vote black!

The black tablecloths are the same price as the white.

Kclepire: I think she probably just personally doesn't like them. She didn't say that straight out so my FMIL asked her if she thought they looked bad and she said "I'm not going to say either way" but if you think they would look good and go with my wedding, then I'll go with them. Did they seem like a crisp black? Not faded? I don't really care if they aren't floor length, when the chairs are pushed in they look floor length to me haha.

Should I do black napkins or white?

I also voted for the black. I think it would look classy and elegant. Are you doing candles too? For some reason I envision it in candle light and I think it would look beautiful!

Humm I would almost do black napkins too - that way you would have the contrast of the flowers and runner stick out more. Are the plates going to be down already? You could have a folded black napkin on top of the white plate to continue with the black and white look.

The black table clothes were not crisp black, yet they were not faded. The material maybe wasn't the nicest, but I've envisioned black the whole time so that's why we went with black.   Go with your gut feel.

We did white napkins to have some contrast and so that we can set our black favor boxes on the white napkins.

I would suggest that you go with black napkins too.  While the contrast may be nice, remember that many people will be wearing black pants or dresses, and white napkins can often leave lint on their clothing.  Most nice restaurants offer the option of black napkins if you ask for them - I've done this on occasion when I've been dressed up for a special event.

Also, I like the way the black tablecloths look with your runners, but I think you would be fine either way.

The black is gorgeous with the table runners...I would definitely pick BLACK :)

I am also doing Damask and I wanted the black but the venue didn't have it.
