Jells2dot0 / Anyone Who's Been to Seychelles!

I think you're still here, but I'm not sure if you've jumped ship!

Can we talk Seychelles for a moment?  If I remember correctly, you went to Denis Island, right?  I'm looking at adding a stop in Seychelles after a few nights in Cape Town and a few in Sabi Sands.  I wanted to pick your brain a bit.

Did you visit multiple islands?  I need to do some more research, but I'm trying to decide what would be a good base.  The "big/main" islands typically don't appeal to me because I like small boutique hotels, but in this case, Mahe seems to have most of the hotels I'd consider, plus it's probably easiest for day trips.  Praslin seems like a happy medium to me, but I can't find as many hotels that appeal.  La Digue - gorgeous, more my style, but I don't want a guesthouse/pension....I'm a bit of a hotel snob. :\

Any thoughts on hotels?  The private islands are out of range, though Denis and Deroches look fabulous.  Right now, I've got FS on the brain...Banyan Tree's water is too choppy in July.  I'm also looking at Constance Lemuria on Praslin, as well as Chateau des Feuilles.  I think I've seen you mention Raffles, but the pictures make the rooms look so on top of each other.

Are you familiar with any of these?  I'd love to know your thoughts!

If not Seychelles, we'll probably go to Mozambique, but the beaches just aren't as dramatically beautiful.  Deserted yes, gorgeous little hotels, yes...but beaches seem kinda plain.

I did spend some time in Mahe, but I stayed at both Le Meridiens. I always see Fisherman's Cove mentioned as a top hotel in the area, but I really did not think it was anything fantastic. Maybe I overlooked the true beauty because the weather was crappy. Barbarons is not even close- it was in serious need of an update. There is a resort called Indian Ocean Lodge on Praslin that is run by the same group as Denis and is not as expensive. Their website seems to be down, but reading the reviews, it also sounds like it may not be quite up to snuff! I have mentioned Raffles because we really regretted not having time on Praslin and when we go back (yes, we will be going back sometime in the next few years!), we'll probably stay there in addition to going back to Denis. There is a boutique property on La Digue called Domaine de l'Orangerie that may be worth looking into. I don't know much abot pricing with it. There is also a Hilton that I believe is on Mahe. I don't know much about that either as I am SPG Platinum, so obviously chose SPG hotels for our Mahe stay. Mahe seems to be the best base to jump from if visiting some of the smaller private islands, but Praslin seems better to get to La Digue. Denis really was a fantastic property and I still think about some of the food from time to time, but it's not really quintessential Seychelles because it's a coral cay and not a granite island. Hence, why we want to also stay on Praslin.

    Hope that helps!!!

EDIT- I forgot to add my thoughts on FS. I was in serious thought about skipping the SPG hotels in favor of the FS. However, I heard that it's very family friendly. I am not a very family friendly kind of gal. LOL However, I still think it ranks as one of the top choices on the island after my experience with the SPG resorts- even if there are kids there.

</div><div>Yes!  I had been looking at Domaine de l'Orangerie on La Digue - I've read good things, plus you've got what are likely to be the most gorgeous beaches there.  The rooms look cute, but their website doesn't show any pricing.  I highly doubt it's as pricey as the FS, Raffles, etc. Seems like a good potential option.  </div><div>
</div><div>Praslin seems like such a great option for us since, like you said, it's so easy to get to La Digue and the island looks beautiful.  I just can't find a hotel option I'm excited about on Praslin. </div><div>
</div><div>Agreed on the no kids thing - we don't have any and want to see as few as possible when we travel!
