April 2013 Weddings

The dress situation :)

So, I have not gained any weight yet (only 4 weeks along), but I am so bloated that my pants barely fit and I swear my boobs are bigger!  I freaked out and called the seamstress (she pinned the dress very tight in the first place - almost too tight) and told her my news that I just found out I was pregnant and need to be measured again... I was so nervous.  She said "Congrats!  That is great news, come in tonight and I will measure you again - no problem!"  Yay!

Now - being in a swimsuit in Hawaii with a bloated belly is another story, nobody can fix that!  But that is ok, I will take a bloated belly anyday knowing there is a baby in there!  I just don't want to crush the baby in a dress that I can't breathe in.

Re: The dress situation :)

  • Most seamstresses are awesome about that. One of my BM's mom is a seamstress and she always does discounted work for people she did work for who find out they're pregnant and need to be re-fitted.

Yeah, you don't want to be miserable at your wedding! You want to be able to breath, and eat! As for Hawaii, that won't matter, just think of it as a brand new baby bump, no one else needs to know it's bloat ;)

Any luck on finding a new baker??

  • Yes, I am very excited that she is going to fix it.  I want to be able to breathe!

Yes Orange!  I will just think of it as a bump - LOL.  Hey, it is the bump causing the bloating, so it works!

No!!!  I have called every grocery store and they said that they need 3-4 weeks notice because they have to order supplies!  One grocery store even has 2 employees in the bakery department tell me "I don't know if we do wedding cakes, can you call tomorrow?"  I saw online you do!  Dumbasses.  I have an email in to another cake baker and FI has someone at work who has a duaghter that does cakes - fingers crossed.  If not, it is Costco sheet cakes for the wedding!  I would like to have a wedding cake, but as long as there is cake I am good!

4 days Orange?!!!!?!?!?!?!  Wow!  Where did the time go!!!  You have to post pics and tell us how it was!

  • Dawn--if worse comes to worse,  you can order a small round cake to cut and have sheet cakes for the guests (they will be cut in back and no one even has to see them).

Also try not using the words "wedding cake". Just say that your cake baker cancelled on you and you need a cake for a "large party" or an "anniversary party" or something of the sort. People hear the word wedding and all of a sudden it's a huge deal to make a cake (which it really isn't). Fondant also scares some off because it's difficult to work with. IMHO, it tastes terrible anyway--you're better off with a buttercream frosting.

If you know anything about assembling a tiered cake, you could always order rounds in different sizes and then put them together using a kit from Joann's or Michaels. But that's only necessary if you had your heart set on a tiered cake.
  • I was going to say the same thing- order a 8 inch round cake to cut, put it on a cute cake stand with some flowers for topping decoration. Then get sheet cakes... don't mention wedding! I bet you you could easily get that from Costco or any grocery store then!

I know!! 4 days.. man oh man. I can't wait! And then I can't wait for the rest of April to watch everyone else's weddings!!

YAY about being able to alter the dress!

FI's sister didn't want to pay the insane charge for a wedding cake so she just had 3 round cakes frosted in white and she bought a Wilton 3 cake stand for about $15.  It was gorgeous!  I say don't even tell them it's a wedding.  Just tell them you need 3 (or however many) round cakes iced in white and I bet my right arm they can have them for you in 2 days.  If they persist, just tell them it's for a Communion and you already have a cross to put on top.
