Wedding Invitations & Paper

Complicated Family Situation

Hi all! I'm stumped with my invitation wording. My mother is paying for the majority of my wedding, and would like to include my stepfather's name on the wedding invitation. They're technically married, but only technically (courthouse for insurance purposes & didn't tell anyone for years), and my relationship with him can best be described as 'cool.' I don't speak to my bio father. And I'm really traditional. I wish I could do

Mr. & Mrs. Dadsname Lastname
request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter
Firstname Middlename

but my last name is not my stepdad's last name. So how do I word it? I was thinking

Mr. & Mrs. Stepdadsname and Momsname Momlastname-Stepdadlastname
request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter
Firstname Middlename

Even though that's all kinds of crazy. What do you guys think?? I worry that his relatives won't know my correct last name...

Re: Complicated Family Situation

  • why not use your last name?

    mr mrs john doe
invite you to the marriage of their daughter
    sue ann smith

    to
    joe smoe wilson
  • I would do "Together with their families" and the only names on the invitations would be yours and FIs.  I was always under the impression that it was the hosts whose name was on the invites.  So if your parents are paying then yes, put their names on it, but if its you and FI, then just do "together with their families."
