Please Chime In...Sending Invites

Hi ladies...as per previous posts from other ladies, many recommend mailing invites out 2 months before ("8 weeks") before the event.

I was just glancing over my checklist from The Knot and it mentions to send them 3 months before the event...

What works best, in your opinion? It is a whole month difference...

Thanks ladies!!!

Re: Please Chime In...Sending Invites

  • I sent the first week of October, and my wedding is in December. But it's destination and most ppl knew it was coming. It all depends on the wedding. If there are a lot of out of towners, I'd do 3 months, if not 2 months is fine. Most ppl recieve the invite, and automatically fill out the RSVP card.

  • We've been planning for 2 years, engaged for 3 years by the time the wedding comes along..We mailed out "Save the Dates" and announced the date at the engagement party which was in January (mailed STDs ONE year to the day; March 9) and I had planned to send the invitations 2 months prior..I think I'll stick to that..a small % of the guests are OOT and they're WELL aware of all the details (It's my dad, his wife, and stepsister)

    Thanks for the advice! :)

  • We sent our invites 2 months prior to the wedding date. We thought it would be best so that our guests wouldn't have the invite for such a long time and forget to rsvp. We also gave them a month to send us back their rsvp. We could have given them more time but we decided against it because we know our guests (especially) family and they would wait till the last moment to tell us if they are attending or not. I think we only needed to contact at most 8 guests in total to check if they were coming or not. I think you will be more than fine :)
  • M wedding is next April, but I'm sending invites out in December, with an RSVP deadline of February 1. I'm doing it like this because our reception venue needs final guest counts 2 months before the wedding date. And I prefer it this way, so that I can have all guest related stress squared away earlier.

  • I sent out mine 10 weeks before the wedding. We are having a lot of people come from out of town, and for whatever reason, nobody made travel arrangements until they had the invitation, even though they knew the date way in advance.
