Need Advice: Civil Wedding Dress to find!!!

Hi Knotties!!

I am looking for a tea length or short retro dress that would match with my shoes. I already do have my church ceremony dress but now I need another dress for the civil ceremony...

I have already been looking around but either the dress is over-priced or it does no longer exist (a previous collection).

I am open to any suggestions!!!! :)

Thanks knotties!!

Mary

  • Hi there,

I found quite a few dresses on Etsy. I'm not sure what your budget is, but there are lots under $500. Those shoes are super sexy. I think they'd look really nice with a fuller skirt, like these: http://www.etsy.com/listing/127573570/vintage-tea-length-wedding-dress?ref=shop_home_active and http://www.etsy.com/listing/117338484/1950s-antique-style-bateau-princess?ref=shop_home_active&ga_search_query=bateau

<div>As a matter of fact, you nailed it!!! My budget is under $500 and I was looking at those dresses too on Etsy. So you think that they will match that type of dress? My shoes are not too much for it? :) I don't want to overdo it, but love my shoes ...</div>

Hmm I feel like the shoes are super modern, so it would add a nice kick to a full tea-length dress. Maybe take the shoes with you to a small bridal salon and try on similar dresses with them just to make sure?

I tried on a few dresses for fit and style before ordering mine online.

As a side note: I'm in Europe (living with my FH in the UK; I'm from Canada) as well, and I've also been a bit conflicted about having multiple celebrations. Is your FH from France?
  • I think that's what Im going to do : take my shoes with me and try it with a couple of dresses. As for where my FH is from: he is also originally from France. Funny thing is that both of us live in Canada so where you're from ; so trying to get the most done overseas quite of a challenge : Your wedding is coming up, you must be super excited!!!

  • I do like the dresses perfectisboring posted. I think they'll work better with your shoes than they would with vintage-y ones, honestly. Matching the era of the dress and the shoes would tend towards costumey. I wore 50s-ish looking shoes with a modern wedding gown, myself.

  • I love the dresses from Dolly Couture.

Or maybe one of these from modcloth will work.

Oh, wow! Sounds hectic. I imagine I'll be in your situation a few months down the line when I'm planning my Canadian wedding celebration.

I'm super excited about my upcoming wedding! It's really small, so I'm not very stressed out about it yet but I imagine I will be in the weeks to come.

    Good luck dress hunting! x
  • I think these dresses are awesome, and would go well with your shoes.  You will see that you can select whatever color - generally any of the ones this company sells are offered in champagne, ivory, black, gold, silver (in case you aren't already familar with this company):

and there are a ton of other great choices!

I'm thinking of having a 'Reception' dress and if I do get one, what I want is something with sequins or beads that looks a bit like a 1920s/1930s vintage hollywood glam design, so you see I threw a little of that your way.

    Have fun shopping!

  • Ladies,

Thanks for all your insights! I actually think I might have found the one ...

I know it is not vintage at all, but when I came across this dress ... it is as if the dress spoke to me. I will give it a week to see if I'm still into it or it was just a phase :)

    Any thoughts? :)

  • That's beautiful. I love Swiss dot fabric.
