Cant find the dress designer!!! Help!!

I have fallen in love with this dress.
I have tried it on but the shop owner wouldnt tell me who the designer is or the name of the dress.

It is a very thick lace with a sweetheart neckline. It is lace up back and a slight mermaid shape.
The sash around the middle is stitched on, made of satin and a diamond(ish) shaped broach in the middle.

The only thing im worried about is that the shop has some horrendous reviews and I would like to find another stockist, which is a little difficult when the shop owner refused point blank to tell me the designer until I placed a £250 deposit. More to the point, id like to know the quality I am getting for my money to be fair.

If anyone could help - Ive posted a sneaky photo I took.

Emma

  • I can't help you with the dress, but I can tell you that this practice is illegal!! See this link. Someone on another board did extensive research on this.

I had a similar experience at another salon. It was disappointing, because I liked the salon other than that, but I will not give them my business. I found one of the dresses I loved at this store on weddingwire by search their gowns by silhouette and price. Try that!

Call the salon and call them out on their illegal practices! Maybe once you threaten to report them to the BBB, they will cough up the designer! Good luck!

HUNDREDS of salons do this.  they don't want you using their resources to shop for the dress and then go buy it at a discount outlet somewhere.  I doubt a phone call will change the practice.

That doesn't change the fact that it's illegal. They won't change their practices, true, but you might be able to at least shame them into telling you the designer, especially if you threaten the BBB.  If nothing comes of the phone call, you might at least feel better about it.  I know I would. It's also my prerogative to shop around. If I want to try on a dress in a salon and then try to find a better price elsewhere, then I should be able to. I'm not planning on buying my dress at some sketch discount online store, but I do plan on finding the best deal I can for my gown, at a reputable bridal salon.
  • Is this the same in the UK as it is in the states?
  • Ohhh, didn't see that you're in the UK. I'm not sure, but maybe others will know! Or you can do some research on it.

OP, check out style "Pasadena" 9063B from Watters. It's not exact, but very close.

1079B also on the Watters site.

The Lace on the dress I tried is very thick and heavy. Not as delicate as an Alecion Lace.
  • The lace of the dress is very similar to this...

  • Did it have a good boning to it? It reminds me of a Maggie Sottero. I'm on my phone and I can't find a link but check there.

Ive checked Maggie Sottero and its none of those :/
I also know it is not Augusta Jones, Mori Lee, Sottero Midgely, Alfred Angelo, White Rose, Sophia Tolli, Mon cheri amongst others...

Im Kinda driving myself mad trying to find it!
  • It kinda has the feel of a casablanca dress, too.

It might help if you guys us how much it was going for..some designers cost more than others
  • They were selling it at £1050.

The salons website states 'mori lee, alfred angelo, sophia tolli, mon cheri and many more'
so they could have any there!

  • Nope - Its not Casablanca :(

Have looked at previous collections too even though they said it was a new dress.

bestbridalprices.com has a ton of dresses and makes it really easy to search through them. Not that I would necessarily order from there, I know nothing about the company, but the site is good for narrowing down styles and searching. I pulled up lace dresses and narrowed by neckline, and that was the closest. I then pulled up the actual dress on the designers webpage by style number.

    Glad it worked out!
