Gift for Groom

Hi Ya'll - I am looking for some good ideas for a gift for my groom.  He is always SO HARD to shop for, and is usually pretty good about dropping hints, but for our wedding, I want to get him something totally original.  He is really into sailing, antique cars, and watches, but don't want to do anything too cliche (like another watch, he has dozens).  I have scoured Etsy but have not found anything at all.  Any suggestions?

Re: Gift for Groom

  • There is no requirement to get him a gift, a nice card would do. That being said, I got H a new iPod with a quote from his favorite game engraved on the back and he loves it. Something practical seems to be the best way to go with guys.

I got my DH the 9mm Sig Sauer pistol he'd been drooling over.

Has your FI ever expressed interest in some sort of sailing gear? Perhaps a week long rental of a cool car that he'd love to drive?

  • We exchanged notes - we made each other cry.  That was enough for us, and we rolled our gift budget into our ring budgets so we didn't have to compromise on our wedding bands.  We also got so snowed under with other gifts, we're glad we didn't buy each other yet another thing.

  • I got my fiance a 1981 Donkey Kong tabletop arcade game off eBay because it's the same one he had as a kid and his parents took away because he went through batteries too quickly.  It's going to be difficult towait six more months to give it to him, mostly because I'm so excited to surprise him.

What about a trip to a Corvette (or whatever cars he's into) museum, or something like that?

    That's Awesome!
  • I've heard of doing boudoir shoots, and making him a book. My cousin got her husband a bracelet from Tiffany's that he wears all the time.

I think if it is sentimental to him it works
  • I think gifts for each other are really a waste of money.  We skipped this.
  • My FI isn't a fan of the gifts thing either (he is so practical and doesn't like to spend a ton of moeny on gifts haha) but I would love to get him an iPod, since his old player stopped working. He loves to listen to music at work, so I know he'd use it all the time. He just wouldn't go out and by it himself. I'm not expecting a gift in return either, but I have always wanted to get him one and it's a good time to.

With that being said, if you go the gift route just do something practical that you know he will use and love!

  • I'm planniing on doing boudoir pictures, but I think they look like a lot of fun so they will sort of be for me, too! I also liked the idea because it's a totally unique gift.

I've also been keeping a journal, but I address every entry to my FI, so it's like a book of love letters. It probably seems really cheesy, but writing FI letters is something i've done since we first started dating, so it works for us. So do what works for you.

  • We aren't doing gifts. Getting married is a beautiful gift on it own.

  • If you want to give a gift I'd say either practical or sentimental.  I gave FI gps for proposal present, (I proposed) and then for wedding day our last name framed that will hang in our entry way.  Just think about your guy..what would he use/ want?
