Avid Entertainment DJ

Has anyone used them before? The only pricing on their website says they start at $450 so they seem very affordable, but I want to know if they are good. We are having a day time wedding (1 - 5pm reception) in a room that lets in lots of natural light so we can't just turn down the lights and pretend we are in a club. So we need a really good DJ to make sure everyone is dancing! I would appreciate any other recommendations for DJs as well, we are trying to keep the cost to under $1000.

Re: Avid Entertainment DJ

  • Yes, don't go with them.  They do nothing but add on fees.  I was a wedding planner for years and had clients try to use them and one ended up losing their deposit and went with another DJ.  I would recommend DJ MaShane http://www.DJMaShane.com They are great guys (Paul & Shane) and very funny but still professional.  I used them at my wedding and I'm planning my BFF wedding and she is using them as well.  Look at all their pictures on their site under events and you can see everyone is always up dancing.  They also have great reviews that say the same thing on wedding wire.

In terms of pricing, just be honest with them upfront and im sure they can help you.  I think there basic package that has everything like dance/mood lights is $1000 for 5 hours.  The party is all about the DJ after the ceremony is over.  This is what people remember the most from the reception (besides the food).

good luck.  Let us know what happens.
  • We went with Bell-Aire Music Productions, DJ Rick was great and well under $1,000 for our 6hr Wedding. He had no hidden fees and let us pick all our music. Really fun and easy to work with.

  • I have worked with Avid Entertainment and have to say dd123456's response looks a lot like a simple plug for another DJ company while putting down a company they have never done business with.

Avid's prices do indeed start at $450 and this will get you 5 hours of music, lighting, and everything else you need to have an amazing wedding.  I honestly don't know anything about DJ MaShane, but if I was looking for a DJ I would reach out to all 3 companies that are part of this discussion and make an educated decision from there.

    Happy planning!

  • @rericson35 Are you Eric Dawson that DJ'ed my clients wedding at Lake Pearl?  You said "worked" but I think you mean WORK.  Vendors are not allowed on these boards spamming like you did and trying to say my post is spamming?  Don't tell me what companies I have used or my clients have used.  I was a wedding planner for many many years and I'm trying to help wedding couples make the right decisions when it comes to all aspects from venues, DJ's, videographers, etc.  If someone hires the wrong DJ/MC the reception will be terrible and the wedding couple will hear about it for years.  You give them a party where everyone is dancing and have a great time then all the guests will tell you that for years.

If your looking for a low budget DJ then I guess go with Avid Entertainment but if your looking for a professional company that can handle anything you through at them (like I have done over the years) go with DJ MaShane (http://www.DJMaShane.com)

Looking at the pics from Avid Entertainment you see nothing back messy wires and the back of their equipment.  Soo unprofessional when you get to nice venues like Belle Mer, Ocean Cliff, etc.  The DJ booth DJ MaShane uses hides the equipment and wires.  The light stand I see in all your pictures is a joke compared to what DJ's I would recommend use and it's all messy wires in every pictures (in the few you can find).  To anyone out there, go to Avid's website or weddingwire page and try to view some pictures of them DJ'ing and what their DJ area and lighting looks like then go to a professionals site like DJ Ra-Mu or DJ MaShane and see the difference.  DJ Ra-Mu and DJ MaShane spend a ton of time setting up and making sure everything is perfect and they use updated lighting, equipment, DJ booths.  Both of them take a ton of pictures and videos from their booth and lighting to intros to the last dance.  These Avid DJ's probably get to the venue 30 minutes before the event and are done setting up in 5 minutes after they get their.  Even the speakers they are using look crappy compared to DJ MaShane and DJ Ra-Mu.  They look like JBL Eon's G2 that you can pickup for $150 while DJ Ra-Mu I think uses good QSC speakers subs and DJ MaShane uses great sound JBL PRX speakers and subs.  I don't even think Avid uses a sub.  It's going to be some crappy sounding newer music especially with no beat because of the lack of bass.

In the end you get what you pay for.  The reception is not a party without the perfect combination of music, lighting, MC, and good food.  I lived by this for many years and every bride (including the bridezilla) were happy in the end by that combination.

Sorry to everyone that had to read all that.  I just hate vendors that post crap trying to act like they are not speaking for the company and trying to tell me I have never used them.  Google Eric R. Dawson from Avid Entertainment and see who is telling the truth on here.  (Also funny how this is your only post on theknot and it's in response to someone saying something bad about your company.  I was trying to be nice in my first post about your company and not say that you don't know how to MC or that your speakers sounded like crap and can't fill a large venue, that your equipment is not hidden behind some type of booth, and that your lights that are just on sound activation mode are horrible and outdated with messy wires everywhere.  The brides photographer made sure he didn't get you in any picture because it looked that bad.)

If anyone wants more information on this company, please let me know.  I will be more then happy to give you complete run down from the feedback I got from a client that used them....

  • Thanks to this detailed response, there is now no question this is another DJ company posting as a wedding planner. You have too many details that a wedding planner would never know (speaker types, etc.). As I mentioned before - couples should talk to multiple entertainment companies and then make an informed decision based on the information they have collected. I'm not advocating for any one company or telling anyone to go with Avid. I do know a number of the statements above to be completely false based on my experience with Avid. They offer top of the line services and run Bose and QSC systems. Once again - if you are planning a wedding, talk to all the companies being discussed in this forum - they likely all provide great service. It really comes down to personalities clicking and a company being able to fit within your budget. Happy Planning!!
  • Dd123456 where have you worked in the past for your experience as a coordinator? After seeing this post I just did a quick search for the wording used in your post and its uncanny but a user named Knottie pretty much post the identical posts you are/'have been posting. Please let me know I've worked with/for 20+of the key venues in New England and wanted to see if I know/remember you. To help validate your recommendations of course
