Venue Ideas?

We are looking for reception venues in the area that will allow outside catering. My stepdad is a chef and has agreed to provide all the food. I am hoping to avoid a VFW wood paneling sort of space, but any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you so much!

Re: Venue Ideas?

  • Welcome to the Detroit board!

It would help to know how many people you expect as guests, and your anticipated budget for the venue.

The venue we used in August 2011 allowed us to bring in our own food & alcohol. We were married at Greenmead Village in Livonia. It is a city of Livonia public park at 8 Mile Rd & Newburgh. They also have a lovely non-denominational chapel for rent. Both buildings are from the mid 1850's, and both have a max capacity of 100. To rent both, as a Livonia resident, the fee was about $1000. They supplied the tables, chair & dance floor, we brought in all the rest of the decor.

Many places are going to require the chef to have a license showing insurance. Because we used a vendor (Holiday Market Catering), not sure what they had to show, or if they were asked. The assumption was they had one.

If you have an outdoor wedding, there is a park in Beverly Hills called Beverly Park. It's on Beverly Rd (I think 12 1/2 mile) just west of Southfield Rd. It has a very large pavilion, with a fireplace at one end, and restrooms. Not sure of the price or other reqirements.

If you want to see pictures of the venue, you can go to my bio link below, on the first page there is a link for photos. There is also a link for vendors, where the contact info is for Greenmead.

There is a post at the top of this board with a stick pin labled "Vendors/Reviews". The brides from the Detroit area have posted their various vendors there in case you need additional info.

    Good luck.
  • We are getting married at Golder Walsh in Pontiac.  They are a greenhouse and nursery and allow outside catering.  They serve parties of all sizes.

If you share more of size/location, I can brainstorm some more.
  • Greenmead is actually what I have been looking at! Thats so awesome! We're having between 50-100 people, haven't decided yet. We live in Westland, but don't mind traveling a little bit. I thank you somuch for your input ladies. I will check out both places and see what happens!!

    Thanks again!
