Second Photographer worth it?

For those who have decided to have a second assistant photographer or have had one for their wedding, did you think it was worth it?  We are paying $400 extra to have another one for the entire day which means double the pics which is nice.

I seem to be in the minority on this issue, but we ended up having three professional photographers documenting the day and I'm very, very glad we did.

I have photos in three very different, and all gorgeous, styles, that capture the entirety of my wedding day. We cleared having multiple photographers with everyone ahead of time, and it worked out fine. None of them struggled for space to shoot, etc. I'm definitely of the mind that it's well worth hiring multiple photographers, or utilizing a second-shooter through your current photog.

I'm not married yet but I will definitely be having a second photographer. This way, you can get pictures from two different angles and one could be in charge of photographing the bride/maids getting ready and the other one could be doing the groom/groomsmen getting ready at the same time that way nothing is missed. I also want pictures at the same time from different angles so two photographers will be needed.

I wish we would have. Lots of detail shots were missed as well as the bouquet toss. Not major because I paid an amazing price for our photog. But still a regret. I think we will be doing Rock the Dress shots just to get some more of just us.

I'd say go for it for $400.

$400 is incredibly cheap for a second one.  Two photographers was a must for me when chosing a package- go for it!

Our photog usually works as a father/son team but when we booked his father had a trip planned. He allowed us to secure a second photog for the day and we were very pleased with the photos from both perspectives. If you can budget for the extra photog I would totally recommend it!

We're having the second photographer. Photography is really important to us so we wanted to make sure that everything is captured and that we have lots of pictures to choose from. For $400 i say go for it!

Almost all of my brides purchase a second photographer.  My prices are about the same.  I really want them to be able to afford a 2nd shooter.

Yeah we are having 2 photographers. It really is worth it because photographing a wedding is a lot of work for just one person. So much so that they can miss out on things that the 2nd photog would have captured on film.

We had 4! The photographer told us that three usually come, but 4 ended up being there. We got our photos back last night and oh my goodness was it ever worth it.. This was the one extravagant thing that my husband and I wanted at our wedding, and are we every happy that we went for it.

I'm sure you wouldn't regret it, but if the extra $400 isn't really in your budget, here is another thought.  Some friends of mine brought a laptop and camera card reader to their reception.  They announced that before everyone left, the couple would appreciate it if guests would bring their camera over to the computer so they could upload everyone's photos from the night.  They weren't professional, but they ended up with a ton of photos that barely missed a moment of the day.
Places like Walmart and Walgreens photo also offer "group rooms" for events, where everyone can upload their pics from the wedding (once they get home), and then anyone in the group can print them at the store.  Or you could just make a photobucket.com or another photo website account and give everyone the password so that you will have access to all your guests photos (whatever ones they choose to upload).

Our photographer is a husband/wife team, so we are getting a second photographer "included" with our package.  I wouldn't have it any other way.  He is more traditional, she shoots more fun and unique.  If you can fit it into your budget, DO IT!  You could spend $400 on things that people wont really remember (cake, food, favors, etc), but pictures will last forever!

Absolutely!  We haven't had the wedding yet, but we booked two, as both have different perspectives.  I would say splurge and spend the 400.  I think it would be worth it.  We aren't having the videographer, so for us it was essential to make sure that nothing is missed in still life.  Hope  that this helps!

Our photographer offered us a second shooter for $200.  Originally, I wouldn't have done it (when we signed with our photographer), however, now that we're so close and see it's in the budget, I was happy she offered it.

Take into account the size of your wedding/wedding party.  We have decided to go with just 1 photographer primarily because we are not having a huge wedding party and also because our ceremony space is a little on the tight side.  I had also spoken with a previous client of our photographers whose wedding was much larger than what ours will be and they only used the main photographer and felt that with the end results they got, they had no regrets with just one photographer.  Although, if you don't mind spending the extra $400 I would say it's worth it to have a second.

It is definitely worth it. I haven't gotten married yet, but my photos are the highest priority, it's all you'll have! We are paying $999 for a second photographer, so $400 isn't horrible. I wanted to make sure we get all the angles, me walking down the aisle, and his reaction at the same time. photos from down the aisle and photos up close. So many moments can be captured from different angles, I thought it was so important!

I think you should go for it if it is in your budget!  I just got my proofs back and I am very unhappy with our photographer, who we met with and carefully researched.  I thought she would be perfect, but our pictures are not great and she didn't take that many.  We didn't get another because she specified in her contract that she needed to be the only photographer and we loved her work and thought it would turn out wonderful.  Now I am missing pictures that would have captured special moments on a day I can't redo.
