Texas-Dallas and Ft. Worth

Ahh Stress!

We are 198 days out from "Brittany and Drue say I do!" The stress of what we still needed to do hit me last week.

So far we have our venue (that caters), chapel, dress, flowers, photographer, and the cake is in the works.

We still haven't done our epics. Need to set the menu, but that's not a huge deal. We need to find a videographer (JChristopher is not available on our day), an officiant, send out invites, find his ring, finalize the bridesmaids dresses, and other honeymoon related jazz.

Questions:

Any reccomendations on videograpphers (budget $1700), officiant?

How far out do I do alterations/schedule alterations. The only thing that will need to be done is just shortened.

Is it too late to send out save the dates? Should we do them, or just skip straight to invites?

I'm having a hard time finding my FI's ring. Any reccomendations on having a ring designed/made?

Thank you sooo much!

    It's 198 days for us too! :)

We're sending out save the dates this week, so I don't think that you're too late to send out save the dates...we haven't hit the 6 month mark yet.

I'm having problems finding a videographer too though. Everyone I've contacted so far is busy. I know Austin Walton is right around your budget (http://www.austinwalton.com/weddings.html) I have no idea if he is available, but I liked what I saw on his site!

I know some girls have used Wylie Video and enjoyed them.  I think another girl used Autumn Video, but that was two years ago and I have no idea about price.
I also think lots of people have had success finding officiants with Love Notes.  Marty and Ari are two names I remember.

This will depend on a couple of things: one is whether or not you want to do bridal portraits and the other is how much other work your tailor has to do.  Contact someone ASAP and get an idea from them how soon they'd like to see you.

I think 5 months out is the norm for STDs, so you're good.  Your STDs don't HAVE to include engagement pics, if that's a concern.

I am useless on rings because my husband's is a family heirloom.  =)  I think you could try Etsy.  If you're willing to drive to Waco (or just north of there, actually), Curtis Cox in Bellmead designed my engagement ring and wedding band (also an heirloom) for really good prices, so he might be able to make something for you.

  • Thanks for the responses! I'll def check out those videographers.

I would love our STD's to have a pic of us, but with as crazy as our schedules are (Police Officer/Nurse working opposite shifts!) I don't think it'll happen. I'm at peace with it!

I guess I'll be contacting Becky Fowler today!

I feel like I'm forgetting things and I think that's another reason I'm stressing. I keep going over my lists and I'm not!

    Thanks!
  • Have you looked at James Avery for your FI ring?
  • I have. There's a design that we like but it's two tone, and neither of us like yellow gold. We like this ring ( Clicky ) but we would like it in white gold. Or this one (Clicky) but want it all white gold.

So far we (I) haven't had much luck.

If you're open to titanium, my DH got his ring from boonerings.com.  It was $99 and he loves it.  Customer service was great too.

We used Marty from Love Notes and he was great but expensive (like $450 in 2009).  Ari Gray with Alternative Wedding Services is also highly recommended and I think she's cheaper.

I would skip STDs honestly.  This is one of those things the wedding industry has convinced brides they have to have.  They aren't even technically necessary unless you're having a DW. One less thing to worry about.  We sent them and DH's parents' best friends in the whole world still booked a cruise for our wedding date.
  • We got H's ring from Etsy -CLICKY-

For an officiant we used Jason McClaren - he was affordable and very professional.

I would at least start making calls on alterations to get an idea. This is a very busy time of year with summer weddings coming up, and it can't hurt to get a timeline going.
  • Did you check with Kozlow's?  They can have rings custom made.

Maybe try a Very Special Day for videography.  We didn't do videography but everyone there is so super nice and our DJ was fantastic.
  • I agree that STD's may not be a must-have. We did them because we had a large amount of OOT guests and I knew that many of them began planning summer vacations/trips early. I got magnet STD's from the Costco website and they were relatively inexpensive. To use that portion of their site, I don't think you have to be a member.

I got J's tungsten comfort fit ring from Overstock.com for about $80. He hasn't had any problems with it at all. We got mine at Robbins Brothers (where he got my e-ring) about a month before the wedding. It was a pretty quick and easy item to cross off the list.

I didn't use Wylie Video, but I did contact Jason about 2 weeks out from my June 2011 wedding to get pricing information. At that time, there was a package as low as $800, but we ended up deciding that we really weren't interested in having video. He was very quick to respond to my inquiry and was nice to speak with.
