Re: Texas Explosion

  • My husband was there earlier today! Not the plant, specifically, but it's our regular stop between Austin and Dallas since they have a really good bakery right on the interstate. I knew girls in college from there. So sad. :(
  • It's so sad.

I'll be honest I was getting confused where it took place.  My DH just said there was an explosion in Waco, TX.   Then while driving him to work the radio said "west Texas".  My brain was thinking "West-Texas" as in the west side of the state.   My DH is terrible with geography so figured he thought Waco was in west-Texas.   Then when I finally go on the computer I figured out it was West, Texas as in the little town near Waco.

  • My t&p go out to everyone there.  It's another tragic event and so sad.
  • I apologize for having the location wrong. I edited OP to correct it. I was hearing multiple reports saying "west texas" and "waco texas".

  • West, Texas is less than 10 miles north of Waco, Texas. I am waiting to hear from some family friends, we can't reach them.

    This is agonizing.

  • This week is too much. It's just too much. I hope this is an accident but a few days before the Waco anniversary....hard to see it like that

[QUOTE]In Response to Re:Texas Explosion: I don't know the whole story and can't say for sure one way or another: there was a fire at the plant. They were fighting the fire when the tank exploded. I may be optimistic, but with the stories as they are right now it is hard to believe it was anything but an industrial accident. The police chief said this morning, like I posted above, that try are investigating it as a crime until they prove otherwise. He also said they had no reason to suspect that it was actually a crime. They just have to cover all their bases.

<div>I agree that it was most likely an accident. Unfortunately, they're worried that if the wind shifts it's going to send all those toxic fumes back into the town and they will have to halt damage control, or that it will blow up the other tank of fertilizer that is sitting there. </div><div>
</div><div>I understand that it is very easy to jump to thinking it was an attack, especially in light of everything that has happened even within the past week, but in this case I just don't think so. </div><div>

<div>Agreed on all points. I hope your friends are safe.</div>
  • Some of them are safe.

Well, my family friend was in a bar less than four miles from there and got knocked off his bar stool from the explosion. His son works at the plant overnight, and they are assuming the worst. :/ So okay and bad news.

<div>:( Crossing my fingers for them.</div>
  • so sorry, km.  I'll definitely be thinking about you and your friends.  please let us know whatever happens.  <3 HUG <3 and love from NEY.
  • That is awful KM!

On the "up" side, seeing how close it was to schools, thank goodness it was after school hours.  They also, from the reports I've been hearing on the radio, managed to evacuate the nursing home close by as well.

There was a recording of a guy who was filming the fire from a mile away when the explosion happened, and it was terrifyingly loud.  Made me shake just hearing it.  And I think I heard it registered like a 2.something on the richter scale?

And to show how scummy some people are; there's already been some reports of looting.

My thoughts and prayers with the missing, the missing first responders, and everyone in West, Tx.  I don't think stopping at the Czech Stop will ever be the same for anyone.

Prayers are with you Boston, MA and West, TX!!
  • Ugh, when I first read this story, it was early enough in the morning that there wasn't much info.  I told myself that at least they wouldn't let people build houses close to a plant like that (known volitile substance).  Now I'm sick to my stomach as I hear otherwise.

(((((KM))))) my thoughts are with you.  I really hope you hear from your friends soon.

  • KM, my thoughts are with you. I am praying for the best for you.

Is anybody else watching this Interfaith Service? I dont have cable, and this is the only thing on all the local networks. Im actually kinda liking this. It shows that no matter what your background, everybody is in this together. We all have different religious backgrounds and its sad that sometimes it takes something so awful to bring us all together as one. But, I find this really interesting to see how many different faiths are in the Boston area & how they are all coming together for this service. I think it was a great idea.

  • Ok KM I'm praying for you family.

There are so many tragedies right now.  Plus the poison being sent to the WH and the Senate, I just can't handle it.  It makes me want to crawl in a hole.

Czech Stop! That was what I immediately thought of when I heard about what happened. One of my coworkers sent me a cell phone video, and it just broke my heart. Prayers indeed, especially to your friends and family, KM.

    Here is the video <a href="http://1037litefm.cbslocal.com/2013/04/18/video-west-explosion-caught-on-camera/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">LINK</a>.
