Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invitation Cost

What should wedding invitations cost/invitey (including the basics on the inserts, rehearsal info, reply card, etc) if I am going on the very basic and cheaper side?

Re: Invitation Cost

  • I was able to DIY mine for less than $3 per invite, including postage.  I would say that's about average. Depending on how many components you want, you could do less, but I've also seen more around the $4-5 range too.

You can find some (professionaly desgined/printed) for $1 apiece if you're not too picky.

You could probably buy your own supplies and DIY for less than that.

I don't know if there's a set answer for what they "should" cost. It's all in what you and your FI like.
  • Mine were just under 300 for 100 invites, rsvp cards and one insert. There were cheaper options for sure. I got mine from theamericanwedding.com. but I came very close to ordering from vistaprint, which would have been about 100 cheaper.
  • I got mine from VistaPrint.  I did a flat invitation, reception card, and response card, upgraded to designed envelopes and heavier cardstock and for 150 invitations, it came to $350.   I had a $100 Groupon, so I only spent $250.

We spent $200 for 100 invitations, lined outer envelops, inner envelopes, RSVP card  and envelope and return address printed.

I thought it was a great price for beautiful looking invitations!  PM me if you want more details.

Also note, if you go into Party City they have tons of books you can flip through with invitations.  Many are cheesy, but some are nice.  This is how we found ours.....I was happy to see the quality in person beforehand.  Party City also seemed to have 30% off at all times, but I searched around the net and found them even cheaper.
  • I DIY'ed my STD's, which saved a lot of money. I spent $40 on the kit of 100 cards and had to buy some extra ink for my printer, so that was fine, but it honestly wasn't worth the amount of time I put into it. I couldn't get them to align correctly and ended up sending them out misaligned!

I got my invitations from David's Bridal because it was convenient and they had my exact colors. I got 100 cards (one of the cheapest designs but still really pretty!), 125 inner and outer envelopes without lining, 100 reception cards, and 100 response cards with pre-printed envelopes. It totaled to around $300, not including postage, and I was extremely happy with them!
  • We bought flat invitations from Wedding Paper Divas, ordered 5 x 6 prints of an engagement photo from Shutterfly and bought cheap bulk tissue paper and cut it to size ourselves with a borrowed papercutter.  It was less than $2.50 per invitation (no STDS, response cards or travel insert) including postage.
