Bar

My receoption venue allows outside liquor. Is it easier to just use their bar and not have to have tons of booze to load into the place. Does anyone have any advice on this? What did you do barwise?

Everything depends on your budget and the size of your guest list.

Having it done for you is always easier.

If you are DIY'ing the liquor, you'd have to have some pretty responsible people willing and able to haul in everything you'd need (not to mention purchase it and store it prior to the wedding)

This for sure.

Also make sure you research what the venue is charging vs buying it yourself. Unless there is a large difference in cost, I would rather the venue deal with it.

• We brought in our own liquor. I didn't find it hard, but we did have a coordinator. Between him and the bartender they took care of everything.

We were able to bring back any thing that was un-opened. Makes ordering much easier if you know you can bring stuff back.

Now we had a full blown premium bar. But you can get away with the following.
BEER:
1 domestic light beer
2-3 other beers. At least one should be an import. However, you know your guests better.

LIQUOR:
I would not go real cheap (generally called "well" brands). Got mid-range or "call" brands. You do not need premium.

Get at least the following types:

Vodka
Rum
Whiskey and/or Bourbon
Other liquor you know your crowd likes. Say tequila or something like that.

WINE: At least one of each. 2 is better
White
Red

MIXERS:

Coke
Sprite
Diet
Water
Club Soda
Tonic
OJ
Cranberry
Pineapple
Limes
Lemons
any other juice you might need for a special drink popular in your crowd

Most drinkers will find something to drink with the above options.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Don't forget ice (if your venue doesn't provide it).
